September 13, 2022 | Women's Soccer
A pair of Colonial Athletic Association teams, at Hofstra on Thursday and hosting Delaware on Sunday, are up next for the Princeton women's soccer team (4-2) in the final week before Ivy League play begins on Sept. 24 at Yale.Â

1. CAA picks: Hofstra was picked second in the CAA preseason poll, earning four of the 12 first-place votes and finishing just four poll points behind UNC Wilmington, which earned seven first-place votes. Delaware was picked seventh in the 12-team league. Delaware forward Sara D'Appolonia was a preseason all-conference pick, as was Hofstra defender Anja Suttner. Hofstra defender Krista Agostinello and keeper Skylar Kuzmich were preseason honorable mention all-conference, as was Delaware midfielder Caitlin St. Leger.Â
2. All-time series: Hofstra leads the all-time series with Princeton 4-2. Hofstra's Krista Agostinello was the only current player on either side to play in Princeton's 2018 2-1 win in Princeton, subbing in for 12 minutes. Last year's 2-0 Hofstra win in Princeton saw Ellen Halseth, who returns this year, get the Pride's second goal and saw Skylar Kuzmich turn in a seven-save shutout. Five Tigers who were in last year's starting lineup have played in a game this season in Ryann Brown, Jen Estes, Morgan Wiese, Aria Nagai and Heather MacNab.Â
Princeton leads Delaware 5-2 all-time and has won the last three in the series. The only game involving any of the current players was last season, a 4-0 Princeton win at Delaware. The lone goal that came from a current Tiger came from Heather MacNab, which gave Princeton a 3-0 lead in the 69th minute after Princeton led 2-0 at the break. Tyler McCamey played the second half in goal, making one save. Mia Reed played the final 13-plus minutes between the posts for the Blue Hens, allowing one goal.
3. Postseason success: Both Princeton and Hofstra made the 2021 NCAA tournament and advanced a round, with Princeton defeating Vermont 2-0 at home and coming up just short against TCU, 3-2 in double OT, in the second round. Hofstra beat Providence 3-0 at home in the first round before a 3-0 loss to South Carolina in the second round.Â
4. The goal scorers: Princeton has seen seven players score a goal while Hofstra and Delaware have each had three players score. Sophomore Heather MacNab (four) and freshman Pietra Tordin (three) have combined for seven of Princeton's 12 goals, while freshman Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir leads Hofstra with three and Ellen Halseth and Anja Suttner have scored two each to account for Hofstra's eight goals. Sara D'Appolonia has four for Delaware to account for more than half of the Blue Hens' seven goals on the season. Tyler McCamey has played 450 of the total 540 minutes in goal for Princeton with a 1.40 GAA while Skylar Kuzmich has played every minute for Hofstra (0.86 GAA) and Mia Reed (1.33 GAA) has played 675 of 720 for Delaware.
5. Conference play: Princeton has opened the Ivy League season with Yale every season since 2008, and in that time, Princeton is 8-4-1 against the Bulldogs, winning 4-0 in 2021 after Yale won 1-0 in 2019. Princeton also ended its pre-conference season with Hofstra and Delaware in 2021, with a loss to the Pride and a win over the Blue Hens.Â
It's also the last week before CAA play begins, and Hofstra will call on two Ivy League teams for that final prep, with a visit from Columbia ahead on Sunday after the Tigers come to town on Thursday. That will make it four Ivy opponents for the Pride this season, and the Ivy Leaguers have yet to allow Hofstra a goal, with Yale playing Hofstra to a 0-0 draw on Aug. 26 and Brown turning in a 3-0 shutout on Sept. 4, both in road games for the Pride. Princeton is Delaware's only opponent of the week, with the CAA opener at UNC Wilmington on Sept. 22 while Hofstra hosts new conference member Hampton.
