Tigers Top Bucknell, Return to Roberts Saturday vs. Dartmouth
September 27, 2022 | Women's Soccer
Kate Toomey had a goal in the first half, Pietra Tordin added another in the closing minutes, and the Princeton women's soccer team was a 2-0 winner over Bucknell Tuesday night in Lewisburg, Pa.
The win came in Princeton's first non-league game since Ivy play began last Saturday at Yale, and the Tigers will return to facing Ivy opponents Saturday when Dartmouth comes to Roberts Stadium. The 1 p.m. game will be the first in the current iteration of Roberts Stadium, now located adjacent to Finney-Campbell Fields, Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field, and the Stadium Drive Garage.Â
Princeton outshot Bucknell 16-4 overall and 6-1 on goal. Ella Gantman played the first half in goal for Princeton before Tyler McCamey took over for the second half as the two Tiger keepers combined for the shutout. McCamey made the save on the lone Bison shot on goal.
Toomey's goal came off an 11th-minute corner kick that slid through the hands of Bucknell keeper Jenna Hall and hit the foot of Princeton's Caroline Kane before Toomey knocked in the loose ball to put the Tigers on top. The goal was the sophomore's first of her Tiger career, and the point on the assist was the first of the rookie Kane's career.
Â
The 1-0 lead remained until less than eight minutes remained in the game when rookie Tordin put in her team-best fifth goal of the season. Starting with a takeaway about 35 yards from Bucknell's goal, Tordin gained a one-on-one chance with Bison keeper Hall and buried a shot from just inside the 18.Â
Â
With the goals from Toomey and Tordin, 12 of Princeton's 15 goals on the season have come from rookies or sophomores.
The win ran Princeton's winning streak against Patriot League schools to 10 games, since a 2016 tie against Bucknell, and its unbeaten streak against the Patriot League to 24 games, since a 2010 loss to American.Â
