Tigers Take Ivy Home Opener, New Roberts Debut 2-0 Over Dartmouth
October 02, 2022 | Women's Soccer
Pietra Tordin had an early goal, Heather MacNab had one late, and the Princeton women's soccer team was a 2-0 winner over Dartmouth in the first game played at the new Roberts Stadium.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth 25-7 overall and 13-4 on goal with senior Ella Gantman getting the shutout between the posts.
Princeton's first goal came in the seventh minute with Lily Bryant finding MacNab with a short pass just before the midfield stripe, and MacNab sending it forward for Tordin. After shaking off the one defender she had to beat, Tordin sent a left-footed shot by Dartmouth keeper Charlotte Cyr to put Princeton on top.
It stayed 1-0 until less than three minutes were left, and on a drop ball about 45 yards from the goal, Jen Estes sent the ball forward to Tordin, who poked it forward to Bryant, who touched it off to MacNab for the finish.
The goals lifted the rookie Tordin to a team-high six on the season and kept the sophomore MacNab second on the team with five. The two Tigers have combined for 11 of the team's 17 goals this season.
Now 1-1 in the Ivy and 7-4 overall, Princeton will return to Roberts on Oct. 8 to take on reigning Ivy champ and current league leader Brown (7-2-1, 2-0) in a 1 p.m. start. Admission is free.
