Women's Volleyball Upends Columbia, 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J. – Powered by a .357 hitting percentage, the Princeton University women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-13) sweep of Columbia Friday night inside Dillon Gymnasium.
The Tigers' .357 hitting percentage was their second-best of the season, trailing on a .358 hitting percentage from a sweep of Bucknell on Sept. 2.
The match was led in kills by sophomore Lucia Scalamandre who had 11 and hit .714, while also adding four blocks and one service ace. Freshman Kamryn Chaney also had double-digit kills with 10, and also had a match-high three service aces and two digs. Freshman Sydney Draper finished with a match-high 36 assists and eight digs, and senior Kathleen Bishop added seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage and tied the match-high in blocks with junior Mariah Haislip as each had five. Freshman Sydney Bold also had a match-high 10 digs.
The Tigers got off to a fast start, opening the match with a 3-0 run. Shortly after, Haislip slid right and put down a kill that sparked a 4-0 run, further expanding Princeton's lead to 8-2. The Tigers soon build their lead to eight points at 14-6 following a kill by McNair, then used another 4-0 run, this time led by a Bishop kill, to get ahead 22-10. Princeton would go on to secure the double-digit first set victory, 25-15.
Ignited by a Chaney kill, the Tigers used a 5-0 run early in the second set to surge ahead 6-1. Princeton continued to build its lead, with a kill by Satchell leading a 3-0 run that put Princeton up, 13-6. While a pair of 3-0 Columbia runs narrowed the Lions' deficit to two at 15-13, the Tigers would extend their lead back out to five, 20-15, after a kill by Scalamandre. Another Scalamandre kill sparked a 3-0 run that gave the Tigers a 23-16 lead, then the Tigers went on to triumph in the set 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match.
While the Lions took a 7-5 lead early in the third set, the Tigers responded with a 7-0 run that put Princeton in front, 12-7, after a Scalamandre kill. A Chaney kill extended the Tigers' lead to five at 16 11, then another kill by Chaney ignited a 6-0 run that put Princeton in front, 22-12. Match point came on a thunderous kill by Bishop, as the Tigers won the third set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
