Women's Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep With Victory Over Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team overcame Cornell Saturday evening inside Dillon Gymnasium, 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-20, 25-13), to complete the weekend sweep.
Sophomore Lucia Scalamandre led the Tigers in kills with 15 on a .545 hitting percentage, and tied the team-high in blocks with freshman Kamryn Chaney as each had three. Chaney also finished with 13 kills, a match-high six service aces and three digs. Freshman Sydney Draper handed out a match-high 37 assists and had nine digs, while freshman Sydney Bold tallied a match-high 16 digs.
An early 5-0 run saw Cornell race out to a 10-6 lead in the first set, but a 5-0 Princeton run ignited by Scalamandre kill would see the Tigers eventually jump ahead, 13-12. The set descended into a back-and-forth battle; with the score knotted at 23-23, Chaney put down a kill that gave Princeton set point, but the Big Red would extend the set. The Tigers would go on to win the set, 26-24, after a junior Mariah Haislip kill gave Princeton set point then sophomore Ella Bunde followed with a service ace.
The second set continued as a back-and-forth battle, until a 3-0 Princeton run sparked by a Scalamandre kill put the Tigers ahead, 12-9. Soon after, Cornell used a 4-0 run and surged ahead, 13-12. The set continued as an evenly matched battle, but with the Big Red in front 19-18, Cornell went on a 3-0 run and took a 22-18 lead. From there, the Big Red would go on to win the set, 25-19, and make it a 1-1 match.
While Cornell would open third set with a 3-0 run, the Tigers would respond with a 3-0 run of their own soon after and take a 6-4 lead. Princeton and Cornell would continue to trade points, with the Big Red eventually taking a 20-19 lead. The Tigers would close the set out strongly, with a kill by Scalamandre sparking a 6-0 run that saw Princeton take the third set, 25-20.
With the score tied 3-3 in the fourth set, a 5-0 Princeton run that featured five-consecutive errors by the Big Red gave the Tigers a 7-3 advantage. Princeton extended its lead to 11-7, then a kill by Scalamandre led a 5-0 run that gave the Tigers an insurmountable 15-7 advantage. Princeton remained in control for the remainder of the set, with Chaney closing the match out with three-consecutive service aces. The Tigers would prevail 25-13 in the set, and 3-1 victory in the match.
