Women's Volleyball Dispatches Brown, 3-1

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team closed the weekend out on a high note Saturday evening inside Dillon Gymnasium, taking down Brown, 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-12), and moving to 7-3 in Ivy League play.
Sophomore Lucia Scalamandre led the way with a match-high 15 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while freshman Kamryn Chaney (14) and senior Maya Satchell (13) also tallied double-digit kills. Freshman Sydney Draper recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 46 kills and 13 digs, while junior Mariah Haislip and sophomore Valerie Nutakor led the Tigers in blocks with three. Freshman Erin McNair finished with a match-high three service aces and 10 digs, and freshman Sydney Bold had a match-high 22 digs.
The Bears raced out to an 10-5 lead in the opening set, but a 4-0 Princeton run that featured a McNair kill along with three errors by the Bears narrowed the deficit to one at 10-9. Brown responded with a 4-0 run of their and regained the momentum, surging ahead 17-11. From there, Brown would go on to earn the 25-15 first set victory.
The second set began as a back-and-forth battle, with a Scalamandre kill followed by a Brown attacking error giving the Tigers a two-point edge at 6-4. With the Bears ahead 15-14, a Scalamandre solo block ignited a 4-0 run that put Princeton back in front, 18-15. Brown battled back to take a 23-21 advantage, but a kill by Satchell sparked a 4-0 run that saw Princeton claim a 25-23 triumph in the second set, and level the match up at 1-1.
An early kill by Nutakor led a 5-0 run that helped the Tigers race out to a 7-1 lead in the third set. Brown battled back and narrowed the margin to one at 11-10, but another Chaney kill led a 3-0 run that gave Princeton a 14-10 lead. While the set was evenly matched from there, a Haislip kill gave Princeton set point at 24-20 and a kill by Scalamandre secured the set for the Tigers, 25-21.
Ignited by a Satchell kill, Princeton opened the fourth set on a 3-0 run. The Tigers continued to play at a high level, with a kill by Haislip followed by a Nutakor block putting Princeton in front, 11-6. Shortly after, a pair of Satchell kills along with a Brown attacking error gave the Tigers a 15-8 lead. Another kill by Scalamandre sparked another 3-0 run, putting the match out of reach for Brown and giving the Tigers an 18-9 lead. Princeton closed the match out with its third 3-0 run of the set, earning the 25-12 fourth-set victory and prevailing 2-1 in the match.
