ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team improved to 8-3 in Ivy League play Friday night inside Newman Arena after it earned a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Cornell.

Sophomore Valerie Nutakor tallied a team-high nine kills on a .553 hitting percentage for Princeton, while freshman Sydney Draper recorded a match-high 29 kills, eight digs and a team-high two service aces. Freshman Sydney Bold tied Draper with a team-best service aces and also led the match in digs with 14. In addition, Sophomore Lucia Scalamandre and freshman Kamryn Chaney tied the team-high in blocks with three.

The first set began as a back-and-forth battle, but a 3-0 Princeton run featuring a Cornell attacking error service error, a double block by junior Mariah Haislip and Nutakor and a Draper service ace put the Tigers ahead, 11-7. Shortly after, Nutakor put down a kill and ignited a 4-0 run and gave the Tigers a six-point lead, 16-10. With the score 17-12, a kill by Scalamandre sparked a 6-0 run that put Princeton ahead nine, 23-12. From there, the Tigers held to prevail in the first set 25-17.

The Big Red took an early 3-1 lead in the second set, but a pair of Scalamandre kills along with a service ace by sophomore Ella Bunde put the Tigers in front, 5-4. Another 3-0 run, this time led by a Chaney kill, extended Princeton's lead to there at 10-7. Princeton had all the momentum, and used a 4-0 run to surge ahead, 14-6, then a 3-0 run to take an eight-point lead, 18-10. Nutakor closed the set out with back-to-back kills as the Tigers went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-20 second set victory.

An early 4-0 run featuring a pair of Big Red errors, a senior Maya Satchell kill and a Chaney ace gave Princeton an early 5-3 advantage. The Tiger and Big would continue to trade points, playing to a stalemate at 13-13 until a Chaney block sparked a 5-0 run that saw the Tigers jump out to an 18-13 lead. Princeton soon took match point at 24-19 after a 4-0 run ignited by a Satchell kill, but the Big Red showed resolve and extended the match with a 3-0 run of its own. Draper dumped it over the net to secure the 25-22 win in the third set along with the 3-0 sweep in the match.
