Women's Volleyball Clinch Spot at Ivy Tournament With Sweep of Columbia

PRINCETON, N.J. – With help from a season-high .407 hitting percentage, the Princeton University women's volleyball team clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament Saturday night inside Levien Gynasium after completing the weekend sweep with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-10) win over Columbia.
The Tigers moved to 9-3 in conference play and have now made the Ivy League Tournament in both its years of existence.
Freshman Kamryn Chaney led the match in kills with 14 on a .524 hitting percentage, while freshman Sydney Draper tallied a match-high 25 assists along with five digs. The match was led in service aces by senior Maya Satchell, who had two. Defensively, freshman Sydney Bold recorded a match-high nine digs while junior Mariah Haislip led the Tigers in blocks with two.
The Lions raced out to a 9-7 lead in the first set, but a 4-0 Princeton run featuring a Columbia service error, a kill by sophomore Nutakor, an ace b Draper and a Chaney kill put Princeton in front, 11-9. Shortly after, the Lions would use a 4-0 run of their own to re-take the lead at 17-15. The set of runs continued, with another kill by Chaney igniting another 4-0 run that put the Tigers ahead again, 20-19. A Haislip kill have Princeton set point before the Tigers secured the first set victory, 25-23, after a bad set by Columbia.
A 3-0 Columbia run gave the Lions an early 6-3 advantage in the second set, but a kill by Satchell sparked a 5-0 run that put Princeton in front at 8-6. The Tigers would soon extend their lead to five, 17-10, following an 8-1 run. Princeton capitalized on its momentum with a sophomore Lucia Scalamandre kill giving the Tigers set point, then a Satchell service ace securing the second set, 25-18.
Princeton raced out to a 5-1 lead in the third set after a Chaney kill led an early 5-0 run. Ahead 9-4, a Nutakor kill ignited another 5-0, this time giving the Tigers a double-digit advantage at 14-4. With the set already seemingly out of reach for the Lions, a kill by Satchell led a 6-0 run that put Princeton ahead, 22-8. A kill by Hailsip gave the Tigers match point, 24-9, then Chaney's 14th kill gave the Tigers the 25-10 third set victory.
