HANOVER, N.H. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team closed the weekend out on a high note Saturday evening inside Leede Arena, upending Dartmouth 3-1 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15).
Freshman Kamryn Chaney was dominant for the Tigers, recording a match-high 16 kills on a .300 hitting percentage, a match-high five service aces, three digs and one block. Freshman Erin McNair also tallied double-digit kills for Princeton, recording 11 on a .310 hitting percentage along with eight digs. Freshman Sydney Draper had her eighth double-double of the season, finishing with a match-high 43 assists and 12 digs while freshman Sydney Bold recorded a match-high 21 digs. Sophomore Lucia Scalamandre led the match in blocks with three.
As a team, the Tigers hit .344 and tied their second-best hitting percentage of the 2023 season.
The Big Green raced out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, but the Tigers chipped away and eventually used a 5-0 run to jump ahead, 12-11, after a kill by Chaney. With the score knotted at 14-14, a 6-0 Princeton run that included three Chaney service aces saw the Tigers surge ahead, 20-14. From there, Princeton would hold on for the 25-20 first set victory.
Ignited by a senior Maya Satchell kill, the Tigers used a 4-0 run early in the second set to gain an 8-3 advantage. A pair of 3-0 runs helped Dartmouth battle back to take the lead at 12-11, but a pair of Big Green attacking errors eventually saw the set tied at 15-15. The set continued to be a back-and-forth battle, with back-to-back Chaney kills making it a 22-21 contest with the Tigers trailing by just one. The Big Green managed to hold onto its lead, winning the set 25-22 and tying the match up at 1-1.
Princeton got off to a strong start in the third set, with a block by junior Mariah Haislip sparking a 4-0 run that gave the Tigers a 9-5 advantage. The Big Green brought it within one at 10-9, but a 3-0 run featuring kills by McNair, Scalamandre and Chaney put Princeton ahead, 14-10. Another 4-0 Princeton run, this time led by a Haislip block, gave the Tigers an eight-point advantage at 22-14 but the Big Green responded with a 5-0 run to bring it within three, 22-19. Princeton remained in control, triumphing in the third set 25-22.
An early 4-0 run led by a Draper kill gave the Tigers a 5-1 advantage in the early stages of the fourth set. Shortly after, Princeton would extend its lead to eight at 12-4 with assistance from a pair of 3-0 runs. The Tigers would eventually extend their lead to double digits at 20-10 run following a kill by Haislip and go to prevail in the set 25-15 and the match 3-1. Senior Kathleen Bishop proved to be difference-maker in the fourth set, when she recorded five out of her seven kills.
