Wrestling Set to Compete in Navy Classic On Saturday

PRINCETON, NJ - The Princeton wrestlers are set to travel for the first time this season to Owings Mills, Maryland to compete in the 2023 Navy Classic. Wrestling action will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 18 at McDonogh School.

Dubuque's Debrief
"This weekend is going to be a great test for our team in regards to the competition and the layout of the tournament," said head coach Joe Dubuque. "The navy classic will give our team a real tournament feel with how our placement and bonus points effects the overall team result. Excited to see how our guys respond from the Princeton Open".
Dugan's Decisions
Nate Dugan is currently 4-0 this season. The senior secured a decisive victory by decision over Jakob Gilfoil from West Point Prep at the 2023 Princeton Open, concluding with a final score of 10-3. Maintaining his winning momentum, he triumphed over Ericson Velasquez from Hofstra in another decision match, securing a score of 8-1. In a closely contested battle, Dugan emerged victorious against Jt Davis of Lehigh, securing a final score of 4-2. Finally, in the 1st place bout, Dugan claimed first place with a win by a medical forfeit, concluding his outstanding series of matches in the opening day of competition for the 2023-24 season.
Sturdy Stout
Stout's record this season is 4-1. At the Princeton Open, Stout won his first bout by tech fall with a commanding score of 19-3. Stout continued his winning streak in the second match achieved a victory by pin at 5 minutes and 16 seconds. He secured a tech fall victory, 17-2, followed by another major decision victory, 15-1. Stout showcased the distinctive Princeton wrestling style characterized by abundant action and impressive scoring.
Pierson's Prowess
Sean Pierson, competing at the Michigan State Open last weekend, won his first match of the day with a 12-3 major decision.
Noteworthy Successes
In the 285-pound weight category, Matt Cover demonstrated his prowess by securing a commendable 3rd place at the 2023 Princeton Open, achieving the victory by fall in just 3 minutes and 34 seconds during the round of 16. Meanwhile, in the 165-pound weight class, the freshman Holden Garcia exhibited exceptional skill and determination, clinching a respectable 6th place. Garcia, despite his first year standing, has seen considerable early success on the mat this season.
Mikey Squires showcased his dominance in the 174-pound weight class, securing a notable 5th place finish after a series of three impressive victories by technical fall in a row. Moving on to the 197-pound weight class, both the No.12-ranked Luke Stout and Aidan Conner secured commendable 6th place finishes, adding to the team's overall success on the mat.
In The Rankings
As of November 14th, the Tigers have two wrestlers ranked by national media outlets. Luke Stout, competing in the 197-pound weight class, commands notable recognition. According to WrestleStat, he holds the No. 11 ranking, while InterMat places him at No. 12, and Flo Wrestling acknowledges him at No. 15. In the 184-pound weight class, Nate Dugan has also earned his place in the rankings. InterMat ranks him at No. 28, while WrestleStat grants him a commendable No. 25 ranking.
