All-Americans! Curry, Tordin Earn United Soccer Coaches National Honor
December 01, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Following a season that saw each player earn first-team All-Ivy League and second-team United Soccer Coaches All-East Region honors during a season that continued into the second weekend of the NCAA tournament, Madison Curry and Pietra Tordin can now add United Soccer Coaches All-American honors to their résumé.
Third-teamers Curry and Tordin are the first United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) All-Americans for the Tigers since 2018, when Mimi Asom was a second-team honoree. It's the first time since 2004 that Princeton earned two All-American honors in the same season, joining 1980, '82, '83 and '04 as seasons that saw two Princeton players earn that recognition.
Curry helped lead the Tigers to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second time in her career along with 2021, playing the second-most minutes of any field player on the team and helping keep opponents to a 1.21 goals-per-game average over the course of the season. In the NCAA tournament, Curry played all 200 minutes as Princeton blanked Michigan and Texas Tech.
Tordin led the Ivy League in shots (82), shots on goal (38) and game-winning goals (seven) while finishing second in the league with 12 goals. Halfway through her Princeton career, Tordin stands 14th on the program's career scoring list with 20 goals over her first two seasons.
Curry and Tordin helped Princeton earn an at-large NCAA bid in a season that saw the Ivy earn four NCAA bids for the third time in league history and first since 2001. It was the fourth time in eight competitive seasons under head coach Sean Driscoll that Princeton made the second round of the NCAAs, doing so after hosting a first-round game for the fourth time in Driscoll's tenure and extending its home NCAA winning streak to eight games.
