Baseball Travels To Georgia This Weekend

PRINCETON – The Princeton baseball team begins their 2023 season at Georgia this weekend (Feb. 24-26).
The Tigers will face the Bulldogs in one game on Friday (5 p.m.), two contests on Saturday (1, 4 p.m.) before the series finale on Sunday (1 p.m.).
Georgia took two of three against Jacksonville State to begin its campaign. Parker Harber led the Bulldogs, going 6-of-12, with two home runs and six RBI in the series. No pitcher threw more than four innings as the squad produced a 4.33 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 27 innings. Georgia won 36 games last season, reaching the NCAA Regionals.
Princeton returns its three All-Ivy players from last season in Brendan Cumming, Nadir Lewis and Matt Scannell along with Academic All-Ivy Jackson Emus.
Cumming led the Tigers in hitting (.366), setting the new single-season program record with 67 hits. He added 42 runs, 20 extra base hits, 30 RBI, 102 total bases and five stolen bases. He was ranked in the Ivy's top 10 in hitting, runs, hits and total bases. During the 2022 season, Cumming had a 15-game hitting streak and produced 21 multi-hit outings.
Lewis paced the squad in on-base percentage (.428), home runs (10), slugging (.613), OPS (1.041), walks (28) and was tied with Scannell for the team-high in stolen bases with nine. He was in the Ivies' top ten in home runs, OPS, slugging, walks, on-base percentage, and steals. Lewis began the season on a 13-game hitting streak and ended the year with hits in eight of his last 10 games.
Scannell produced a .294/.387/.483 slash line for the Tigers this season along with seven home runs along with a team-best 44 RBI and nine steals. Scannell's 44 RBI was tied for fourth in the Ivy League as he contributed 11 multi-RBI outings. The sophomore also struck out 12 hitters in 11 1/3 innings on the mound.
Emus was the Tigers' No. 1 pitcher, producing a 4.76 ERA in 68 innings of work. He struck out 69 hitters and held opponents to a .246 batting average. At the plate, the junior hit .318 in 88 at-bats with a .375 on-base percentage.
The Tigers' non-conference slate includes Duke, Navy, Richmond, Old Dominion, SC Upstate and Cincinnati before Ivy action gets underway at Clarke Field against Dartmouth on Mar. 25-26.
