Glory Advances to Second Straight NCAA Final, Monday to Wrestle for Place
March 17, 2023 | Wrestling
Princeton senior Patrick Glory has joined a club that now includes him and John Orr '85, the only Princeton wrestlers to make two NCAA finals. Classmate Quincy Monday came up just short of making that a three-man club and will wrestle Saturday for place.
Glory, seeded second, was an 8-2 winner over third-seeded Liam Cronin of Nebraska in a semifinal at 125, advancing to face fourth-seeded Matt Ramos of Purdue in Saturday night's final. Ramos pinned top-seeded Spencer Lee of Iowa in the third period in Friday night's other semifinal. Ramos and Glory have not wrestled collegia
A four-time All-American, earning that title in Friday's first session and joining former teammate Matthew Kolodzik '21 as the only Tiger wrestlers to do that, Glory made the final last year but came up just short to the now-graduated Nick Suriano of Michigan, 5-3. Glory's making the final last year broke a 20-year drought for the program in appearing in the NCAA finals, and Monday making the finals later that night in Detroit last year made it the first time Princeton had two NCAA finalists in the same year.
Monday, seeded fifth, came close to repeating the feat, taking a 5-2 lead over top-seeded David Carr of Iowa State into the second period in a 165 semifinal, but Carr kept Monday off the board the rest of the way and rallied for a 6-5 win.
Monday will wrestle in Saturday's daytime session in a consolation semifinal and then will wrestle for third or fifth place later in the session depending on the outcome of the consolation semi. Monday will meet Wisconsin's third-seeded Dean Hamiti in that consolation semifinal. Monday defeated Hamiti already this season, 4-3 in the Midlands final.
Saturday's first session will start at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT, and the evening session will start at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. Both sessions will be streamed on ESPN+, with the daytime session televised on ESPNU and the evening session on ESPN.
Brackets are available here.
