Glory Earns Fourth All-American Honor, Monday Third as Both Earn NCAA Semis Bids
March 17, 2023 | Wrestling
Patrick Glory became the second four-time All-American in program history and Quincy Monday became the program's third three-time All-American as both advanced to the semifinals at the NCAA Championships for the second straight year, Glory with an 8-4 win over Arizona State's 10th-seeded Brandon Courtney in a 125-pound quarterfinal and Monday with a 10-4 win over Michigan State's 29th-seeded Caleb Fish in a 165-pound quarterfinal in Friday's daytime session.
Glory, seeded second, will be back for the 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT session to take on third-seeded Liam Cronin of Nebraska, whom Glory has not wrestled collegiately. The other semifinal matches Iowa's top-seeded Spencer Lee with fourth-seeded Matt Ramos of Purdue.
Monday, seeded fifth, will wrestle Iowa State's top-seeded David Carr in his semifinal match. The two met in an exhibition match at the NWCA All-Star Classic last November, before Monday made the move from 157 to 165 pounds, and Carr won that match 2-1. Both wrestlers' fathers were 1988 Olympic medalists for Team USA, Monday's father Kenny a gold medalist at 74 kg (163 lbs) and Carr's father Nate a bronze medalist at 68 kg (150 lbs). The other semifinal matches Missouri's second-seeded Keegan O'Toole with Michigan's 11th-seeded Cameron Amine.
Glory joins former teammate Matthew Kolodzik '21 as four-time All-Americans with the program and Monday joins Glory and Kolodzik as the program's All-Americans with at least three such honors.
Brackets can be found here, and matches are being streamed on ESPN+. Friday evening's session will have TV coverage on ESPN.
