March 18, 2023 | Baseball
Game 1: Princeton 7, Cincinnati 5
Trailing 1-0, Matt Scannell tied the score on a RBI single in the second. Princeton put up a three-spot in the third stanza behind RBI knocks from Kyle Vinci, Nick DiPietrantonio and Jake Koonin. Scott Bandura's run-scoring double in the fourth made it a four-run lead for the Tigers. Cincinnati got back within two, but Princeton tacked on two more in the eighth with Jake Bold and Kyle Vinci RBI hits.
Bandura paced the offense with four hits. Justin Kim secured the win with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work. Jacob Faulkner earned his third save.
Game 2: Princeton 7, SC Upstate 4
In game two with USC Upstate, Princeton got on the board with a RBI single from Bandura and RBI groundout from Bold in their first at-bat. The home team retook the advantage with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Princeton tied the game with a four-bagger from Scannell before the Spartans countered to retake the lead, 4-3, in the fifth.
Thanks to a Jake Bold run-scoring single and Vinci RBI groundout, the Tigers jumped back ahead. Another pair of runs in the ninth from Carlos Abello and Matt Scannell clinched the 7-4 win for Princeton.
Game 3: Princeton 3, Cincinnati 2
The Bearcats got on the board with single runs in the first and second frames before Scannell cut the deficit in half with a RBI triple in the fifth. The junior first baseman tied the contest with a two-out knock followed by Marasheski's hit giving Princeton the lead.
Tom Chmielewski threw his first complete game, scattering six hits and striking out 10.
This is Princeton's third straight victory and gives the squad six non-conference wins. The team has not won three games in a day since at least 1981.
