Both games from a non-league twinbill at Rider went Princeton's way on Wednesday as the Tigers swept the Broncs 3-2 and 3-1 in Lawrenceville.
Princeton never trailed in the opener, getting a run in the second inning and two more in the fourth to get a 3-0 lead. Serena Starks had a base hit to drive in the second-inning run with the bases loaded on a hit batter, a single and a walk. In the fourth inning, a base hit and a hit batter put two on for Lauren Sablone, who drove in a run with a single, and Starks followed by putting a ball in play that resulted in an errant throw and another run scoring.
Rider got a run back in each of the fifth and sixth innings but went down in order in the seventh as Princeton preserved the win.
Alexis Laudenslager went three innings in the circle, allowing three hits and a walk, striking out five, and Molly Chambers got the win in relief, going four innings and allowing the two runs, one earned, on four hits, striking out one.
In the nightcap, Princeton opened the scoring with a fourth-inning run after two hits and a hit batter loaded the bases for Grace Jackson, who picked up a run with a groundout.Â
Rider tied it in the bottom of the fourth on a Chaela Crowder home run, but Princeton pulled right back in front in the fifth when Sophia Marsalo homered to make it 2-1.Â
The sixth inning saw Princeton tack on the game's final run, when Adrienne Chang and Jackson each had a base hit, and on a stolen base by Jackson, an error allowed pinch runner Abby Hornberger, running for Chang, to take an extra base and score.
Brielle Wright and Meghan Harrington split the work in the circle in game two, with Wright getting the win on four innings with a run on five hits without a walk, striking out five, and Harrington retiring all nine batters she faced in three shutout innings to get the save, striking out four.Â
The Tigers will resume Ivy League play Friday with a single game at Penn, starting at 4 p.m. The series will resume Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader.
