MVP Fillier, Thompson Earn Silver Medals at IIHF World Championships

Princeton rising senior Sarah Fillier and alumna Claire Thompson '20 were silver medalists with Team Canada at the IIHF Women's World Championship that wrapped April 16 in Brampton, Ont.
Canada went 4-0 through the pool-play round, defeating the U.S. 4-3 in a shootout in the pool-play final, and made the gold-medal game where Team USA won the rematch 6-3. It's the third medal for Fillier and second for Thompson at the IIHF Worlds, as both were part of Canada's gold-medal team in Calgary in 2021 before a Fillier was part of Canada's successful gold-medal defense in Denmark in 2022.
Fillier was named tournament MVP after scoring seven goals and adding four assists for 11 points, also being named Best Forward and as one of three forwards on the tournament all-star team.Â
Fillier led Canada and tied second overall in the tournament with seven goals, and Fillier's 11 total points also led Canada and tied for fifth-most overall in the tournament. Thompson, a blueliner, had two assists in the tournament.
