No. 1 Women's Rowing Set For Ivy Rowing Championships
May 10, 2023 | Women's Rowing - Open
PRINCETON – The No. 1 Women's Open Rowing Team will look for its' sixth straight Ivy League title as it heads to Lake Quinsigamond for the 2023 Ivy League Rowing Championships.
All the races will take place on Sunday with heats going off from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Finals will take place between 1:10 p.m. to 6:10 p.m.
Princeton's varsity eight has not lost this season, collecting victories over No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Yale, No. 8 Penn, No. 14 Harvard, Cornell, Brown and Rhode Island. Texas had won 22 consecutive races before its loss to Princeton and had their boats go 76-0 during that time.
Sitting in third place for the Sally P. Shoemaker Trophy with just the V8 race left in 2022, the Tigers needed their top boat to secure a win to earn the Ivy League title.
The V8 got out to an open water lead and held off a furious rally from Brown to collect the V8 Ivy championship.
With the win, Princeton moved into a three-way tie for the Sally P. Shoemaker Trophy with Brown and Yale with 74 points. The tiebreaker was the Tigers' V8 victory which means Princeton was the Ivy League representative in the NCAA Rowing Championships. It was second straight Ivy team crown for Princeton and the first time it's won back-to-back team trophies since 2011-13.
