Men’s Track and Field Wins Long Jump and Pole Vault Championship on Day One of Outdoor Heps

Philadelphia PA - On a day highlighted by a pair of Ivy Champion titles and a new school record, the Princeton University men's track & field team sits in second place with 37 points overall after the opening day of the 2023 Ivy League Heptagonal Track & Field Championships hosted at Franklin Field.
Greg Foster made program history for the Tigers with a a record breaking win in the long jump. Foster produced a best leap of 7.97 meters for his final attempt. Not only is he now the 2023 indoor and outdoor champion in the long jump, but his performance surpasses the previous school record set by Ugwunna Ikpeowo in 1996 of 7.93m.
Notably, Fosters' mark will also now rank seventh in the entire nation for 2023.
Sondre Guttormsen finished in first in the pole vault, clearing 5.60 meters and brother Simen Guttormsen finished second, with a mark of 5.37 meters.
Following his first place finish, Sondre Guttormsen is now a four time Ivy League champion, winning both indoor and outdoor titles in the pole vault for two, consecutive years.
In the Decathlon, Phil Kastner currently sits in first place with 4114 points and five events completed. Kastner earned a first place finish in four of the five events on Saturday including the 100m (10.83), the Long Jump (7.26m), the Shot Put (14.69m), and the High Jump (1.95m).
Tiger thrower Asher Robbins earned a third place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.60m to add more Princeton points to the board and take the podium.
Josh Zelek was the top Tiger in the 10,000m on Saturday evening upon Franklin Field. Among a talented pool of Ivy League distance runners, Zelek endured the 25 laps to land in fifth place with a time of 29:58.78
Zach Jaramillio also helped to contribute to the Princeton team score thanks to his performance in the men's javelin throw. Jaramillio claimed sixth place with his throw of 55.18m.
In the 100m trials, both Joey Gant and Ibrahim Ayorinde qualified for the final. Gant finished second with a time of 10.43 , while Ayorinde finished fourth with a time of 10.48.
Anderson Dimon qualified for the 400m final by finishing fourth overall with a time of 47.52.
Following the 1500m trials, Jack Stanley, and Duncan Miller will advance to the finals, with Stanley placing sixth at 3:48.60 and Miller in ninth at 3:49.83.
In the 200m trials, Ayorinde and Gant both qualified for the final with Ayorinde finishing first overall with a time of 20.80 seconds, while Gant finished in fourth with a time of 20.97.
Princeton men's track and field had a strong showing on day one of outdoor championship competition and will look to build upon their momentum going into the final day of Ivy Heps.
