PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's basketball program would like to thank Skye Ettin for the tremendous impact he made on the program in his eight years on the coaching staff.
During Ettin's tenure the Tigers became the fourth No. 15 seed to make the Sweet Sixteen, made two NCAA Tournament appearances, two NIT appearances, won three Ivy League championships and two Ivy League Tournament championships.
Ettin was an integral part of the staff who helped the Tigers advance to the Sweet Sixteen in 2023, as Princeton became the 11th No. 15 seed to defeat a No. 2 seed with a 58-55 win over Arizona. He also helped guide the Tigers to the largest-ever margin of victory for a No. 15 seed thanks to a 78-63 triumph over Mizzou in the Round of 32. Princeton's March Madness run also saw the Tigers earn a pair of victories over nationally ranked programs, with Arizona checking in at No. 8 and Mizzou at No. 23.
Princeton were no strangers to power five wins with Ettin as an assistant coach. Along with Arizona and Missouri, the Tigers also took down Oregon State, South Carolina, Arizona State and USC.
During Ettin's eight years on staff, the Tigers went 134-71 overall and 70-28 in Ivy League play. Princeton players have been named Ivy League Player of the Year twice, Defensive Player of the Year twice, Rookie of the Year twice and All-Ivy League 18 times. Princeton also set team records five times during that period.
Ten Tigers have gone on to play professional basketball since Ettin joined the staff, including Tosan Evbuomwan '23 and Devin Cannady '20, who have signed NBA contracts. Ryan Schwieger '21, Richmond Aririguzoh '20, Myles Stephens '19, Amir Bell '18, Spencer Weisz '17, Hans Brase '17, Steven Cook '17 and Henry Caruso '16 have also played professionally, while Ethan Wright '22 and Drew Friberg '22 will be commencing their pro careers shortly.
Individually, Ettin was named a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 30 under 30 honoree in 2017, a compilation of coaching staff members under the age of 30 from across all NCAA Divisions. Ettin was also named one of the 50 most impactful mid-major assistants by Silver Waves media in 2020. He was one of the few assistants in the Ivy League receive the honor, as well as one of the youngest.
