Women's Soccer Team Draws Rutgers to Open Weekend
August 31, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Though the Princeton women's soccer team outshot Rutgers overall and on goal, the Scarlet Knights held on to head back to the banks of the Raritan with a 0-0 draw Thursday night at Roberts Stadium.
Princeton held a 17-10 advantage in shots overall and 7-5 in shots on goal. Pietra Tordin took four shots overall and was one of five players with a shot on goal. Aria Nagai, one of four players with at least three shots on goal, led the team with two on frame.
Tyler McCamey made all five saves in goal to keep Princeton unscored upon on the season, continuing the team's longest shutout run to start a season since 2018, when the team also opened with three straight shutouts before conceding a goal in the season's fourth game. Princeton opened the 2017 season with five straight shutouts.
It was the second time in the last four meetings with Rutgers that the teams played to a 0-0 draw, a result last seen in 2019. The teams split their two meetings since, heading into Thursday's game, with Princeton winning 4-3 in Piscataway in 2021 and Rutgers winning 3-0 last season, also at Yurcak Field.
Princeton, now 2-0-1 on the season, will continue its four-game homestand to start the season when it hosts Army West Point Saturday at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
