Brown Gets Past No. 13 Princeton, 2-1
September 30, 2023 | Women's Soccer
A pair of goals early in the second half from Brittany Raphino were enough to lift Brown to a 2-1 win over the No. 13-ranked Princeton women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Providence.
Raphino opened the scoring less than three minutes after halftime, taking a long pass forward from Evelyn Calhoon and getting a one-on-one matchup with Tiger keeper Tyler McCamey, threading the ball inside the right post.
Just more than five minutes after halftime, Raphino struck again. Brown pushed forward after a Princeton goal kick as Raphino ran ahead and sent a shot across the six-yard box and in.
Princeton got on the board with 18 minutes to go in the game. Lily Bryant collected a loose ball just ahead of midfield and found Lexi Hiltunen, who sprinted past a trio of Brown defenders and slid a shot between one of those defenders and goalkeeper Clare Gagne to pull the Tigers within 2-1.
Brown held on despite Princeton outshooting the Bears 12-8 overall and finishing even in shots on goal, 5-5. Hiltunen's goal ended a Brown shutout streak of 430:02 and was the first the Bears allowed since Sept. 6.
Now 6-2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Ivy, Princeton will head to Penn on Wednesday night as the Ivy League season continues.
