Women's Track & Field Takes Down Navy 103-74

ANNAPOLIS, MD - In a dominating display, the Princeton Women's Track and Field team won the Navy Dual meet at the Wesley A. Brown Field House, making this the fourth straight victory for the women's program against the Mids. Princeton outscored Navy 103-74, winning 13 of the 17 events.

The meet was scored in a 5-3-2-1 format for individual events and 5-3 for relays. Two student-athletes from each school scored per individual event, and one relay was scored from each school.
The women scored the maximum number of points (eight) by taking first and second place in five of the 17 events.
Head Coach Michelle Eisenreich had the following to say about the meet: "We love starting the indoor season at Navy. Between the competition and facilities we are inspired to do incredible things. The tremendous performances we saw across events are all signs we are on track for another historic season!"
In the first event of the day, Georgie Scoot quickly set the tone for the meet with a new school record in the long jump. Her jump of 6.29m (20'7.75") won her the event and earned Princeton five points. This new PR for the sophomore puts her at third all-time in the Indoor Ivy League record book and currently ranks her seventh in the nation. Alex Kelly completed the sweep in the long jump with her second place finish jump of 6.14m (20'1.75"). This new indoor PR for Kelly ranks her 20th in the nation. The two sophomores, Scoot and Kelly, currently sit 1-2 at the top of the Ivy League rankings. Combined event athletes Shantell Kwofie and Julia Jongejeugd rounded out the long jump in third and fourth, with Kwofie tying herself for fifth all-time in the Princeton record book with her jump of 5.84m (19'2") and Jongejeugd earning a new PR of 5.61m (18'5").
Another Tiger found their way into the top 20 in the nation with their performance. This time, Tessa Mudd in the pole vault. Her jump of 4.20m (13'9.25") won her the meet and ties her for 17th in the NCAA.
Princeton demonstrated their prowess in the throwing events by scoring the maximum amount of points and claiming the top three spots in both the weight throw and shot put. In the weight throw, freshman Angela McAuslan-Kelly secured the first position with a distance of 18.79m (61'7.75"), her second straight victory in the event. McAuslan-Kelly was closely followed by senior Annika Kelly with a throw of 18.16m (59'7"). Siniru Iheoma completed the sweep in the event with her throw of 16.69m (54'9.25").
The shot put witnessed another impressive display as freshman Shantell Kwofie claimed the top spot with a PR throw of 14.12m (46'4"). Kwofie finds herself on another Princeton top 10 list, this time 7th all-time in the shot put. Iheoma secured second place with her throw of 13.45m (44'1.5") and sophomore Makenna Marshall took the third spot with a new lifetime best throw of 13.17m (43'2.5"). The strong performances in the throws from the Tigers at the Navy Dual meet not only highlight individual excellence but also underscores the strength of Princeton's throws group, setting a promising tone for future competitions.
Fiona Max kicked off the running events for the day with a victory in the mile. Max came back later in the meet to earn another first place finish in the 800m. Max's individual performances won her team 10 of the 103 total points. The senior came back at the end of the meet to contribute to the team's 4x800m relay win.
Freshman Hannah Riggins, competing indoors for the first time, won the 500m in a time of 1:14.19. This performance ranks her 8th all-time on the Tigers top 10 list.
Mena Scatchard and Maggie Liebich combined to score eight points in the 3000m. Scatchard's blazing 31 second final 200m won her the event with a time of 9:28.83, a PR of over 30 seconds for the junior. Liebich followed close behind with a time of 9:36.97.
The distance squad led by Coach Brad Hunt outran the Mids across all distances, earning first place finishes in every event from 500m to 3000m.
With a quick turnaround from the long jump, Jongejeugd and Kwofie were the top finishers for the Tigers in the 60m hurdles, finishing second and fourth, respectively. Jongejeugd ran a lifetime best of 8.71 seconds, landing her eighth all-time on the Princeton top 10 list. Kwofie followed shortly behind with a time of 8.78 seconds, just 0.01 seconds off her lifetime best in the event.
The 400m was highlighted by sophomore Maisha Atkinson with a new indoor PR of 56.00 seconds. Atkinson's performance places her eighth on the Princeton top 10 list.
Senior Captain Bri Mponzi earned the team 5 additional points with her victory in the 60m and time of 7.62 seconds.
To cap off the meet, the Tigers won both the 4x400 and 4x800m relays, earning 10 points for the team and completing the runaway victory against the Mids.
