Women's Basketball Beats Columbia on National TV, 80-65

PRINCETON – Madison St. Rose and Skye Belker shined as the Princeton Women's Basketball Team defeated the Columbia Lions on national television, 80-65, at Jadwin Gym on Saturday evening.
St. Rose scored 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Belker set a new personal best with 21 points on 7-of-11 from the floor, corralling four helpers.
Ellie Mitchell was one point shy of her career mark with 14 points, securing 15 rebounds for her 15th career double-double.
After a bucket from Columbia's Abbey Hsu cut the Princeton lead to three, 60-57, with 8:17 remaining, the home squad held the Lions to just one basket for over seven minutes.
By the time the Lions registered its next one (76-62) with 1:06 to go, the contest was essentially over.
That's the literal definition of #GetStops.
Princeton shot 9-of-13 in the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Lions by 10. Head coach Carla Berube's unit shot 72 percent in the second half (20-of-28), scoring 47 points, and turning around a four-point deficit at the break.
The Lions ended the first half on a 19-6 push over the last six minutes to take a 37-33 lead after 20 minutes.
The Tigers scored six of the first eight points in the third stanza to tie the Ivy matchup at 39-all. Princeton ran out to a seven-point lead before settling with a 56-51 lead after 30 minutes. The Tigers went 11-of-15 from the floor during that stretch.
Columbia's 65 points was its third lowest total of the season after coming averaging 77.3 points a contest (No. 37 in the NCAA). Princeton's 80 points are a season high.
Berube's team is 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League, sitting with a nine-game winning streak. The Tigers welcome Cornell next Saturday (Jan. 27). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
