PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team earned its first straight sets victory over Harvard since Oct. 18, 2019, when it swept the Crimson Friday night inside Dillon Gymnasium, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 27-25).
The victory was the 198th of Head Coach Sabrina King's career, moving her just two short of 200 wins.
Sophomore Kamryn Chaney led the match in kills with 15 and added nine digs along with a match-high three service aces. Junior Valerie Nutakor added nine kills and freshman Jackie Onyechi seven on a .600 hitting percentage along with a match-high five blocks. Sophomore Sydney Draper handed out a match-high 25 assists while sophomore Sydney Bold tied the match-high in digs with 15.
The Tigers got off to an impressive start, with an Onyechi kill igniting a 6-0 run that put the Tigers ahead, 8-1. The Tigers would soon extend their advantage to double figures, 14-4, after a kill by Nutakor, a Harvard attacking error then a kill by junior Lucia Scalamandre. Princeton had little trouble from there, and went to earn a 25-14 opening set victory with set point coming courtesy of a Chaney kill.
The Crimson raced out to a 12-8 lead in the second set, but a Nutakor kill sparked a 6-0 run that put the Tigers ahead, 14-12. Chaney would soon take over as she produced back-to-back kills followed by a service ace that gave Princeton a 21-15 advantage. Set point came after a Harvard attacking error then Scalamandre put down an emphatic kill to give the Tigers a 25-18 second set triumph.
Set three began as a back-and-forth battle, but a kill by Scalamandre followed by a Harvard error put Princeton in front, 7-5. Harvard battled back to take a 13-10 lead, but Princeton would soon knot the score at 17-17 after a 3-0 run of its own, led by a Scalamandre kill. The Crimson showed resilience and took set point at 24-21, but a Crimson attacking error followed by back-to-back Chaney kills tied it up at 24-24. Harvard took set point again at 25-25, but a Chaney kill, a Crimson error then an Onyechi kill closed it out for the Tigers as they earned a 27-25 victory in the third set and a 3-0 sweep in the match.
