Princeton Takes Down Brown 29-17

Points? Princeton. And what was the main reason for that Friday night on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium? Turnover margin. That was where Princeton won the game.
Â
Princeton's defense rang its turnover bell five times and used that advantage to hold off Brown 29-17 in a game the home team desperately needed. It wasn't easy and at times wasn't pretty, and yet in the end, none of that mattered.
Â
The win ensured that Princeton would not have an 0-2 start in the Ivy League and that Brown would not have a 2-0 start, something that hadn't happened for either team since 2010. Instead, both teams are now 2-3 overall, 1-1 in the league, at the midway point of the season.
Â
Brown ran 93 plays to 61 for Princeton, outgained the Tigers 443-384 and had a seven-minute edge in time of possession. The big difference, though, would be three interceptions and two fumbles caused by the Princeton defense. It was quite a contrast from the first four weeks of the season, when Princeton was minus-8 in turnovers.
Â
The biggest moment of the game came four plays Brown took over near midfield with 7:17 to play, down 22-17, when Tahj Owens recovered a Bears fumble on the Tiger 27. Instead of of a chance for Brown to take the lead with a TD, Princeton instead drove 73 yards on eight plays, getting the clinching touchdown on a 12-yard Blaine Hipa to Luke Colella pass with 1:47 go.
Princeton jumped out quickly, going up 19-0 after a 66-yard John Volker touchdown run on a fourth-and-one play less than two minutes into the game, then a seven-yard Volker TD run with 5:16 to go in the first and a 13-yard Hipa run with 2:33 gone in the second. Would this one be a laugher? Nope.RING THE BELL @TheDyamiRios!

Brown, who came from way down to score the final three touchdowns in a 31-28 win over Harvard in its Ivy opener, got on the board with a touchdown midway through the second quarter, only to have a Sam Massick 28-yard field goal make it 22-7 at the break.
Â
The second half began with a masterful Brown drive, as the Bears went 75 yards on 18 plays, using the half the third quarter, to make it 22-14. It became 22-17 when Brown's Christopher Maron hit a FG from 33 yards out with 8:17 to play.
Â
Brown's 93 plays gave Princeton plenty of chances to make tackles, and nobody made more of them than Marco Scarano, who had 14 of them, while Jack DelGarbino had 10. Owens, who recovered both Brown fumbles, also had eight tackles.
Â
The three interceptions came from Torian Roberts, Tyler Morris and Nasir Hill.
Â
Volker left the game after carrying four times for 76 yards, and Ethan Clark followed up his 117 yard effort against Mercer last week with 73 more on 14 carries, including a huge 44-yard run on the clinching drive. Hipa went 15 for 26 for 200 yards, and his main target, Colella, finished with six catches for 96 yards and his TD.
Â
Princeton is at Harvard next Saturday.
