Princeton Tops Dartmouth, Clinches 28th Ivy Title And Host Spot For League Tournament
October 27, 2024 | Field Hockey
There are Senior Days, and then there are Senior Days!!!!!
What happened Sunday on Bedford Field for the Princeton field hockey team was the kind with a lot of exclamation points.
Beth Yeager scored three more goals as the Tigers rolled past Dartmouth 5-1 Sunday, clinching at least a share of the 28th Ivy League championship in Princeton history. That number is not only the most by any Ivy field hockey team (the second-best total is seven) but also the most by any Ivy League women's team in any sport.
The victory also secured the host role for Princeton for the upcoming Ivy League tournament, which will be held on Bedford Field Nov. 8 and 10. Harvard is the only other team that has clinched a spot and will be the No. 2 seed in the four-team field, while there are still five teams mathematically alive for the last two spots as the regular-season heads to its final weekend.
Ah, but those four goals all came from members of the junior class. The senior class? Its six members had been honored before the game. The last of the day's exclamation points came with eight seconds to go.
Senior Clare Brennan dribbled the ball down the left side, cut back inside and then sent a psss into the circle to fellow senior Lily Webb, who rapped it into the cage with eight seconds to play. It was the absolute perfect ending to Senior Day.
Every field player played in the game. The six seniors are Webb, Brennan, Schulze, Robyn Thompson, Gracie McGowan and Aimee Jungfer.

Yeager, the Ivy leader in goals and points, scored on a penalty corner 2:53 into the game, and Talia Schenck rocketed home one of her own less than two minutes later, making it 2-0 Princeton early on and getting the party started. The lead grew to 3-0 at the half when Yeager dribbled into the circle to draw a penalty stroke and then 4-0 on another Yeager goal late in the third. That's Beth, again. She has three. We have four. Heading to the fourth, it's 4-0 Tigers.

Webb already had an assist on Schenck's goal back in the first quarter. Princeton also picked up assists from Schenck, who had two to go along with her goal, and Grace Schulze and Pru Lindsey. The perfect end to Senior Day!!! Lily from Ceebs, and the Tigers win 5-1.
