Driscoll's 100th Win at Princeton Comes in 8-0 Rout of Brown
October 05, 2024 | Women's Soccer
The loss snapped Brown's 29-game unbeaten streak in Ivy League play since a 2018 loss to Penn that was also Brown's last shutout against an Ivy opponent. The eight goals tied the most Brown allowed in its history, which dates back nearly 50 years to 1975, tying an 8-0 loss to North Carolina in 1991.Â
The margin of victory was Princeton's largest since a 9-0 win over Lehigh in 1999, it was the most goals Princeton scored against an Ivy opponent since an 8-1 win over Penn in 1990, and it was the largest margin of victory in an Ivy League game since a 10-0 win over Columbia in 1985. The win was Princeton's first over Brown since 2017, snapping a five-match skid against the four-time defending Ivy League champs, and it was Princeton's first win at home against Brown since 2014 after losing the last three against the Bears in Princeton. The Tigers' most recent shutout of Brown was in 2015, a 4-0 win a year after Princeton won the 2014 game 5-0.

Lily Bryant opened the scoring when she got away from the Brown back line and was there for Kiley Hamou to place a centering pass from the end line. Bryant then banked a shot off the bottom of the cross bar and down to get Princeton on the board.
Though Princeton led in total shots 10-6 at the half, much, much more was ahead in the second half.
The scoring resumed quickly after the break, when Pietra Tordin drew a foul in the 18 and Heather MacNab buried the penalty kick just 40 seconds into the half. Less than three minutes later, Tordin scored the first of her three consecutive goals, getting behind the Brown back line when Brooke Dawahare sent a ball forward for a finish across the goal and a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.
Tordin's hat trick took place over less than 16 minutes of game time. Less than six minutes after Tordin's first goal, Kayla Wong freed a ball from a pair of Brown defenders in the 18 and helped it squirt free for Tordin, who sent it home for a 4-0 lead. Five minutes later, Dawahare again sent a ball forward for a charging Tordin, who provided the finish to put Princeton up 5-0 with 27-plus minutes to go. The hat trick was the second of Tordin's career, after a four-goal game against Army West Point on Sept. 2, 2023 at Roberts. Tordin, a junior, is Princeton's active career leader in goals, now with 23 and tied for 12th-most all-time. Tordin did not make her season debut until four days ago after missing the first month-plus of the season while helping Team USA to a third-place finish at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia.
Isabella Garces, Grace Rossner and Ally Murphy provided the last three goals over the game's final 13 minutes, with Rossner's and Murphy's goal each as her career first. Garces's goal came off a Pia Beaulieu corner kick, with Garces sending home the loose ball. Six minutes later, Kelsee Wozniak sent a ball into the box for Rossner, whose first attempt clanged off the post before Rossner knocked in the rebound. Murphy had the capper just more than a minute after the Rossner goal, with Wozniak sending a long pass ahead into the 18 for Murphy to free herself and send it in.
Princeton outshot Brown 23-9 overall and 11-5 on goal with Tyler McCamey making all five stops to earn her 25th career win and 14th career shutout.
Driscoll's 100th win made him just the second coach in program history to reach the century mark, following predecessor Julie Shackford's 203 wins from 1995 through 2014. Driscoll is the winningest active Ivy League coach at their current post, leading Brown's Kia McNeill, who remained at 83 wins with the Bears.Â
The win improved Princeton to 7-3 on the season overall and 2-0 in Ivy League play. The Tigers, who have posted three straight shutouts, will take a shutout streak of 280:54 into Wednesday's 6 p.m. visit from Penn that will close a three-match homestand at Roberts Stadium.
