The Ivy race: Wednesday will bring together the pairs of schools in travel-partner sports, and for Princeton, that's Penn. Princeton and Columbia are 2-0, ahead of Yale (1-0-1), Brown and Cornell (1-1), Penn (0-1-1), and Harvard and Dartmouth (0-2). The top four teams will make the Ivy League Tournament, set for Nov. 8 and 10 at the top seed. The top seed and any teams that have the same league record as the top seed will be the Ivy League champion, with the tournament winner as the Ivy League Tournament champion and the recipient of the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
What a win!: Princeton is coming off Saturday's 8-0 win over Brown, which is the four-time defending Ivy League champion and hadn't lost a game in Ivy League play since 2018. There were a lot of most-since notes coming out of that game, with Princeton scoring its most goals since a 9-0 win over Lehigh in 1999, most goals against an Ivy opponent since an 8-1 win over Penn in 1990, and largest margin of victory over an Ivy opponent since a 10-0 win over Columbia in 1985.Â
Welcome Back Pietra!: Pietra Tordin scored seven points in her first games back from helping Team USA to third place at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, getting an assist in a 3-0 win over Lafayette and then a hat trick in the win over Brown. The hat trick lifted Tordin to 23 career goals, moving her into a tie for 12th in program history. Tordin would move into a tie for 10th with just two more goals, and with six more goals, she'd stand alone in seventh place in program history, with sixth place at 36 goals. It was Tordin's second career hat trick, along with a four-goal game against Army West Point in 2023. Tordin was one of two Tigers at the U-20s, with backliner Zoe Markesini helping Canada to the knockout round.
Coach Driscoll: Sean Driscoll won his 100th game at Princeton with the Brown game, making him the second coach in program history to reach 100 wins, following predecessor Julie Shackford's 203 from 1995 through 2014. Driscoll, a three-time Ivy Coach of the Year, has led Princeton to three Ivy titles, five NCAA bids, four trips to the second round and one NCAA quarterfinal trip.Â
On Offense: With three more joining the group on Saturday in Lily Bryant, Grace Rossner and Ally Murphy, 12 Tigers have scored a goal this season, with sophomore Isabella Garces leading the way with four and rookies Alexandra Barry and Brooke Dawahare with three and Tordin at three as well.Â
Between the Posts: Tyler McCamey has played the entirety of nine of the Tigers' 10 games this season, carrying an 0.56 GAA into the Penn game. McCamey, a senior, has turned in four shutouts this season. Cecilia Cerone made her first career start and had her first career shutout against Lafayette. Entering the week, Princeton ranked sixth in the nation in save percentage, at .889, and 15th in GAA, at 0.50. Individually, McCamey ranked 10th in the nation with an .884 save percentage. The Tigers haven't allowed a goal in the last 280:54 entering the Penn game. Another shutout would be Princeton's first four-game shutout streak since going six straight games without allowing a goal late in the 2021 season.
On Penn: Penn stands 1-6-4 on the season and will look to snap is coming off a 2-2 tie at Yale on Saturday. The team had its first win of the season on Sept. 22, 4-0 over Temple, followed by a 3-0 home loss to Columbia to open the Ivy season and then Saturday's draw at Yale. Ten Quakers have scored a goal this season, with Abbey Cook and Isabella Zulli each scoring two. Annabel Austen has played every minute in goal, holding a 1.64 GAA.Â
The Series with Penn: Princeton holds the lead in the all-time series with Penn 23-10-4. Though Princeton has won the last six games against Penn, the last eight meetings with the Quakers have seen a total of 10 goals scored. The last 10 meetings have seen two ties and eight games each decided by one goal. Only once since 2015 has either team scored more than one goal in a Penn-Princeton game, with the Tigers winning 2-1 in 2022. The Tigers have given up just two goals to Penn in the last eight games, one each in 2016 and 2022. That 2022 game saw current Penn senior Anuli Okafor open the scoring in the 34th minute before current Tiger junior Kelsee Wozniak scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 51st minute. Tyler McCamey played the second half and had one save in a shutout 45 minutes. In the 2023 game at Penn, Drew Coomans had the lone goal, scoring in the 50th minute and McCamey made three saves in the shutout win.Â
Up Next: Princeton will head to Yale on Sunday as the Ivy season continues. Harvard will visit on Oct. 19 in Princeton's next home game.
