Women's Volleyball Snaps Yale's 30-Match Home Winning Streak

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team snapped Yale's 30-match winning streak at John. J. Lee Amphitheatre, the second-longest home winning streak in NCAA Division I, Friday night with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18) victory over the Bulldogs.
Yale's last home lost was to the Tigers, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 27-25), on Nov. 6, 2021.
Sophomore Kamryn Chaney led the way with another dominant performance, leading the match with 25 kills, no errors and a .532 hitting percentage along with 13 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Chaney also added two service aces. Junior Lucia Scalamandre tallied 12 kills on a .611 hitting percentage and six blocks while junior Valerie Nutakor added 11 kills. Sophomore Sydney Draper handed out a match-high 47 assists and had nine digs and sophomore Sydney Bold recorded a match-high 20 digs along with a match and career-high five service aces.
The Bulldogs used a pair of 4-0 runs to race out to a 10-2 advantage, but the Tigers showed resilience; down 14-8, a kill by Nutakor ignited a 5-0 run that made it a one-point set at 14-13. Back-to-back kills by Chaney gave the Tigers a 17-16 lead, but Yale responded with a 4-0 run and went up 20-17. The Bulldogs would hold on take the first set, 26-24.
An early 3-0 run, ignited by a freshman Jackie Onyechi kill, saw Princeton take a 6-3 lead in the second set. Yale went on to take a 9-8 advantage, but a Chaney kill led a 3-0 run that saw Princeton retake the lead at 15-14. A kill by sophomore Ava Harrington sparked a 6-0 run that included three-straight Bold service aces that put the Tigers ahead, 21-15. Princeton would level it up, 1-1, and prevail in the second set, 25-18.
While the Bulldogs took an early 5-4 lead in the third set, an Onyechi kill led a 5-0 run that put the Tigers in front, 9-5. The Tigers would soon use a 3-0 run, led by a Scalamandre and Harrington solo block, to go up 12-6. A 3-0 Bulldog run narrowed the deficit to three at 17-14, but a double block by Onyechi and Harrington then a Chaney service ace extended it back out to five at 19-14. It was Chaney who delivered the kill on set point as Princeton took the third set, 25-19.
Princeton started strong in the fourth, with a kill by Onyechi followed by a Chaney service ace putting the Tigers ahead, 7-4. With Princeton ahead 15-12, a kill by Onyechi led a 4-0 run that put Princeton up seven, 19-12. A Chaney kill the Tigers match point at 24-18 then another Chaney kill sealed it for Princeton, 25-18 in the fourth set and 3-1 in the match.
