
Women's Volleyball Outlasts Brown In Front Of National TV Audience, 3-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team completed its third weekend sweep of the season Sunday afternoon inside the Pizzitola Sports Center as it outlasted Brown, 3-2 (25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 15-25, 15-9), in front of a national TV audience in a contest broadcast live on ESPNU.
Sophomomore Kamryn Chaney turned in another dominant performance, tallying a team-high 19 kills, a match and career-high five service aces along with 11 digs, which tied the team-high, and two blocks. The double-double was Chaney's 10th of the season. Junior Lucia Scalamandre recorded 16 kills on a .519 hitting percentage, five blocks and three service aces while sophomore Sydney Draper handed out a team-high 46 assists. Sophomore Sydney Bold tied Chaney for the team-high in digs with 11, and freshman Jackie Onyechi tied Scalamandre in blocks with five.
While Brown took a 12-11 advantage in the first set, a pair of Bear errors along with a Chaney service ace put Princeton in front, 14-12. Scalamandre would soon extend the Tigers' lead to three, 17-14, after she delivered a kill then a solo block. The Bears used a 3-0 run to make it a one-point set at 22-21, but the Tigers held on for the 25-23 first set victory.
Princeton jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the second set, but a 3-0 Brown run knotted the score at 8-8. Ahead 10-9, A Chaney kill sparked a 3-0 Princeton that put the Tigers in front, 13-9, and Princeton would not look back from there. A kill by sophomore Ava Harrington put the Tigers in front by five, 17-12, then the Tigers would close the set out with a 6-0 run to secure the win in the second set, 25-19.
In a sign of things to come, the Bears opened the third set with a 3-0 run. While Princeton kept it close at 15-14, another 3-0 Brown run created separation at 18-14. The Tigers could do little to halt Brown's momentum as the Bears would prevail in the third set, 25-19.
A setter dump by Draper early in the fourth set ignited a 3-0 run that gave the Tigers a 6-4 advantage, however a 7-0 Brown run put the Bears in front, 15-9. Brown went on to tie the match up at 2-2, triumphing in the fourth set 25-15.
The fifth set saw a double block by Chaney and Onyechi ignite a 4-0 that put the Tigers in front, 6-2. Princeton would soon go on a second 4-0 run, surging ahead 10-4. With Princeton up 12-9, a Scalamandre kill followed by a Brown attacking error then another Scalamandre killed secured the fifth set for the Tigers, 15-9, and the match 3-2.
