
Women's Volleyball Clinches Spot In Ivy Tournament With 3-0 Sweep Of Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team defeated Cornell, 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-20) Friday night inside Dillon Gymnasium, clinching a spot in the Ivy League tournament.
In the three seasons of the Ivy League Tournament, the Tigers have now clinched a spot in all three tournaments.
Sophomore Kamryn Chaney led the Tigers with a match-high 18 kills, with a hitting percentage of .395 and eight digs. Junior Valerie Nutakor also registered 10 kills along with two digs and sophomore Sydney Draper led the team in assists with 32. Junior Lucia Scalamandre and freshman Jackie Onyechi each tied the match-high in blocks with five.
In the first set, Princeton came back from an early deficit with a 10-4 run to take a five point 15-10 lead. The Tigers and the Big Red continued to battle, but Nutakor's five kills were able to keep the Tigers ahead to end the set 25-23.
Entering the second set, Cornell was able to nab the first two points before Princeton exploded into a 12-5 run to take the lead 12-6. The Big Red fought back, tying the game up at 16 and again at 22. Two kills by Chaney and one by senior Shelby Fulton then helped Princeton to take the set, 27-25.
The third set began with another close race between the two sides, with Princeton and Cornell tied at six apiece. Four Tigers registered kills, including two by Chaney and Draper each, as the Tigers exploded into a 10-3 run to lead 15-9. The Big Red was able to cut the deficit down to two, going on a 3-0 run to bring the score to 18-16 Princeton, but the Tigers fought back to maintain the lead.
Entering the final stretch, Chaney earned another kill as the Big Red made an attacking error and a service error, delivering Princeton the final set 25-20.
