
Davis' Career-High 25 Points Powers Men's Basketball Past Northeastern, 79-76

BOSTON – Career-highs from sophomore Dalen Davis and senior Blake Peters along with clutch play by freshman Malik Abdullahi powered the Princeton University men's basketball team to a 79-76 victory over Northeastern inside Matthews Arena Sunday afternoon.
With Princeton down 75-74, Abdullahi made a basketball from the middle of the key with 00:05 remaining to put the Tigers in front then iced the game at the free throw line in the final seconds.
Junior Caden Pierce recorded his 22nd career double-double with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds while junior Xaivian Lee scored 12 points and handed out a game-high eight assists, becoming the first Tigers since Tosan Evbuomwan '23 in the 2021-22 season to have consecutive games with seven or more assists. Freshman Malik Abdullahi added eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field and 2-for-3 shooting from the free throw line in 15 minutes. For the second-consecutive game, the Tigers received 28 points off the bench.
Princeton has now secured a 3-0 start for the second-straight season and improved their all-time record against the Huskies to 5-2.
Northeastern came out of the games strong, but a pair of three-pointers by Peters tied it up at 8-8 with 13:50 on the clock then put Princeton in front, 11-10, with 12:57 remaining in the half. The Huskies would re-take the lead, 16-13, with at 8:43, but a three-pointer by Davis ignited a 12-0 run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 25-16, with 4:39 on the clock. The Huskies were able to narrow the deficit down five at the half, as Princeton took a 35-30 advantage into halftime.
The second half saw Northeastern take the lead at 39-37 with 17:50 left to play, but two more three-pointers by Davis helped the Tigers knot the score with 13:54 on the clock, 45-45. The Huskies would then take a five-point lead, 50-45, with 12:38 remaining. Princeton gradually chipped away, with an Abdullahi layup at 8:25 making it 58-56.
Northeastern extended its advantage back out to seven, 65-58, with 6:20 left to play, but Peters's three-pointer made it a 67-64 game with 4:58 on the clock. Seven-straight points by Davis would soon put the Tigers back in front, 71-70, at 2:43, but the Huskies once again gained a one-point advantage with 00:12, 76-75.
With 00:05 left to play, Abdullahi's short jumper gave the Tigers the lead before he iced the game from the free throw line in the final second as Princeton left Matthews Arena with the 79-76 triumph.
