Women's Cross Country Takes 4th at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals
November 15, 2024 | Women's Cross Country
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – With Mena Scatchard finishing first for the Tigers, the Princeton women's cross country team took fourth place at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Friday with a score of 99.
"The crew had yet another strong showing on Friday. The Mid-Atlantic proved to be one of the very best regions in the country. We fell just short of our goal to finish top 3 and grab an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships as a team. Compared to our showing on this course eight weeks ago we collectively improved by over 1 minute and 20 seconds. We closed the gap to Penn State by 50 points from the Fall Classic and had three All-Regional performances by Mena, Anna and Meg. Meg was once again the top true freshman in the field, Mena will advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual, Peyton Leigh took another giant step in her progression this fall and Anna McNatt just missed advancing to the National Championship as an individual. The ladies should be so proud of the season they created. There is much to celebrate and we remain hungry for more as we build upon our status as one of the very best teams in the country. GO TIGERS!" - Head Coach Brad Hunt
Scatchard finished the 6k with a blazing time of 19:58.2 for ninth place overall and a new personal best.
Anna McNatt was next across the line for Princeton, clocking in at 20:19.1 for 15th place. Meg Madison finished in 19th place with a time of 20:28.9, kicking out six runners in her final split.
Peyton Leigh claimed the 26th spot with a time of 20:41.1. Alexis Allen was the final Tiger scorer, finishing in 30th place with a time of 20:47.0.
Emma De Jong and Olivia Martin were the Tiger pushers, clocking in at 21:07.5 and 21:11.1 for 45th and 51st place respectively in a field of 214.
Of the top seven Tiger finishers, five were freshmen and sophomores, showing a promisingly bright future ahead for the program.
With her performance, Scatchard qualified for the NCAA Championships individually, and she now looks to represent Princeton in Madison, Wis. on November 23rd.
