MADISON, WIS. — Mena Scatchard competed in the NCAA Championships on Saturday, finishing in the 123rd spot nationally with a time of 20:41.2.
Scatchard, a dominant force for Princeton all season, was the only Tiger to qualify for nationals after setting a new personal best of 19:58.2 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, taking ninth place overall. Her performance helped Princeton to a fourth place finish and team score of 99.
"It was tremendous for Mena to have her first NCAA Championship experience in Madison, Wisconsin. Her growth and development over the last year reflects the growth of the team as a whole. To be on the national stage provides Mena the pathway to return in the seasons ahead as one of the very best in the country. Today was an invaluable learning experience that will propel her forward come the indoor and outdoor track season. Mena and I agreed that the only thing better than being at the NCAA Championships as an individual is to be at the meet with the team. We have so much success to celebrate from this fall and we are excited to discover what is in store in the next calendar year of training and racing." - Head Coach Brad Hunt
An All-Region honoree, Scatchard's performance at regionals followed up a second place finish at the Ivy Heptagonal Championships, helping Princeton to its first Ivy title since 2015 with a time of 20:17.1.
Scatchard's performance today was her first trip to the cross country NCAA championships, and it concludes an impressive season in which she finished first for Princeton in five of six meets.
Now, Scatchard and the Tigers will look to begin the indoor track and field season, beginning with the Rutgers Holiday Classic on December 6 at The Armory.
