BOSTON – Junior Caden Pierce of the Princeton University men's basketball team was named to the Lute Olson Award Early-Season Watch List and the Lou Henson Award Early-Season Watch List Tuesday afternoon. Pierce was joined on the Lou Henson Award Early-Season Watch List by junior Xaivian Lee.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the top player in Division I college basketball and the Lou Henson Award to the top player in mid-major college basketball. Recipients of both awards are determined by 10-member voting committees, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.
Pierce, who was named to the Karl Malone Award Preseason Watch List along with Most Outstanding Player at the Jersey Jam, averaging 15.0 points on 55.2% shooting, 8.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists through three games. His 23 career double-doubles rank No. 15 among active players and his 8.3 rebound-per-game average No. 19.
Through Princeton's first five games, Lee is averaging 15.8 points, 6.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds. He is leading the Ivy League in assists-per-game and became the first Princeton player to record seven or more assists in consecutive games since Tosan Evbuomwan '23 had seven against Bucknell (Dec. 7, 2021) and eight at Lafayette (Dec. 11, 2021).
