Xaivian Lee Scores Season-High 30 Points At Myrtle Beach Invitational Against Texas State

CONWAY, S.C. – Junior Xaivian Lee scored a season and game-high 30 points Friday night against Texas State in the Princeton University men's basketball team's second game at the Myrtle Beach Invitational, but the Tigers fell just short to the Bobcats, 83-80.
Lee recorded his third career game of 30 points or more, finishing with a team-high 30 points on 11-for-20 shooting, a team-high six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Senior Blake Peters added 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the three and 2-for-2 shooting from the free throw line. Peters' 141 career made three-pointers rank No. 16 all-time at Princeton. Sophomore Dalen Davis also scored 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from three.
Princeton got off to a strong start, with a pair of Peters free throws followed by a turnaround jumper by Lee putting the Tigers up 7-2 with 17:12 left in the half. Princeton would soon extend their lead to double figures, with a layup by Pierce then a corner three by Peters putting the Tigers in front, 16-5, at 14:43.
The Bobcats would soon go an 8-0 run take the lead with 8:19 on the clock, 25-24. The remainder of the half descended into a back-and-forth battle, until a second-chance layup by Lee at 5:14 ignited a 12-0 run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 41-33, following a senior Philip Byriel three-pointer with 2:18 left in the half. Princeton would take a two-point advantage into halftime, 43-41.
Texas State came out of halftime and took a 47-43 lead with 18:44 remaining. A pair of Lee free throws then a dunk by Lee knotted the score with 17:47 on the clock, 47-47, but the Bobcats got hot and took a nine-point lead, 62-53, at 12:56. Texas State would soon go up 13, 68-55, with 9:49 remaining.
There was no quit in the Tigers, as Peters drained a three-pointer with 7:51 on the clock that ignited a 10-0 run and narrowed the deficit to three, 70-67, with 6:10 remaining. Peters connected on his fifth three-pointer with 3:38 on the clock, and it led a 6-0 run that put Princeton in front, 77-74, at 2:30. Despite more late game heroics from Lee and Peters, the Tigers could not hold on and the Bobcats earned the 83-80 victory.
