Amanze's First Career Double-Double Helps Women's Basketball Secure Win Over Temple, 62-57

PHILADELPHIA – The Princeton Women's Basketball Team withstood a furious Temple Owls' rally and held on for a 62-57 victory at the Liacouras Center on Tuesday evening.
Atter trailing by as many at 18 points, Temple had cut the deficit to eight a few times in the fourth quarter before a jumper by Ashley Chea made it a 10-point contest, 59-49, with 2:46 to go.
The Owls made a huge push, scoring eight straight, making it a two-point contest, 59-57, with 69 seconds remaining. Princeton forced Temple to miss two shots before Tabitha Amanze grabbed her 11th rebound with 28 seconds on the clock. Skye Belker sank two from the charity stripe before two more misses by the Owls essentially ended the contest.
Amanze recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a personal-best 11 caroms while adding two blocks. Ashley Chea led the Tigers with 17 points while contributing five rebounds and three assists. Belker corralled her fourth consecutive double-digit outing with 14 points in the win.
Head coach Carla Berube's squad opened up the game with 12 of the first 15 points and took a 16-7 lead into the second quarter. During the first frame, the Tigers allowed just three baskets.
Temple closed the gap to three, 20-17, with 5:44 to go in the first half, but Princeton went on a 12-0 run over the final 4:05 to hold a 32-17 advantage at halftime. The Owls shot just 26.9 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
The Tigers stretched their lead to 18 in the third stanza and took a 51-36 lead into the final quarter.
Princeton has won five of its last six games and is currently on a three-game winning streak. The Tigers take break for Thanksgiving before making a cross country trip to Portland on December 6th and Utah on December 8th.
