Princeton, Vigilante Named Ivy League Coaching Staff of the Year
November 06, 2024 | Men's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton was selected as the 2024 Ivy League Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday.
Led by Head Coach Jason Vigilante, Princeton captured its fourth consecutive Ivy Championship title on Saturday, November 2nd at the Meadows Campus Cross Country Course.
The title is also the program's eighth under Coach Vigilante and his second as head coach. It is Princeton's 25th all-time title.
Vigilante joined Princeton in 2012 and was named head coach in August of 2023.
Since joining the Tigers, Vigilante has helped the Tigers win seven Ivy League Cross Country Championships and claim five Triple Crowns, most recently in 2023-24.
In 2023, Vigilante helped Princeton take a first place team finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, marking their first victory in the Mid-Atlantic region since 2021.
The team placed 11th at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country National Championship at Panorama Farms, which ties the Princeton team record for highest finish at the NCAA National Championships. Nicholas Bendtsen was honored as a Division I Cross Country All-American, the program's first All-American since Donn Cabral, who secured the title twice in 2010 and 2011.
At this year's Ivy championships, junior Myles Hogan was the top Tiger finisher, taking fifth place with a time of 23:05.4. His performance earned him a spot on the First Team All-Ivy.
Nicholas Bendtsen, Sean McCormick, Jackson Shorten and Harrison Witt were also named to the Second Team All-Ivy, claiming eighth, 11th, 13th and 14th place.
The day was especially significant as Princeton swept both the men's and women's cross country championships in their first year hosting the event. Coach Brad Hunt and the women's cross country staff were also unanimously named Ivy League Coaching Staff of the Year as Princeton swept the awards too.
Vigilante and the Tigers, who are currently ranked second regionally and 18th nationally in the latest USTFCCCA polls, now look to NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on November 15. The meet will be hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pa.
