Tigers Top Harvard in Ivy Semifinal, Will Host Brown on Sunday
November 08, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Two goals from Pietra Tordin and one from Kayla Wong helped the Princeton women's soccer team dispatch Harvard 3-1 on Friday evening at Roberts Stadium as the Tigers advanced to the final of the Ivy League Tournament.
In just the second year of its current incarnation, the Ivy League Tournament has yet to see its host win, with Columbia upsetting Brown in last year's semifinal in Providence. The Bears returned the favor this year, winning 2-1 over Columbia in Friday's first game to earn its spot in Sunday's 1 p.m. final that will decide the recipient of the Ivy League's bid to the NCAA tournament. Tickets are available here.
Princeton opened the scoring with a penalty-kick goal from Tordin, who was tripped up in the 18-yard box while heading toward the goal along the endline just before the midway point of the first half. Tordin made it 2-0 when she finished a cross from Drew Coomans less than five minutes after the halftime break, and Kayla Wong sent home a rebound off a Coomans shot just past the midway point of the second half before an Aslaug Gunnlaugsdottir goal with 11-plus minutes to go spoiled the shutout.
Tordin's goals lifted the junior to 29 for her career, putting her in seventh place on the program's all-time career list and just one goal from becoming the seventh player in program history to score 30 career goals.Â
Princeton outshot Harvard 20-7 overall and 8-4 on goal, with Tyler McCamey making three stops to earn her career-high 11th win of the season and 30th of her career.Â
