
Men’s Basketball Overcomes 11-Point Deficit To Upend Duquesne, 75-68

TRENTON, N.J. – For the second-straight season, the Princeton University men's basketball team emerged victorious at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center Jersey Jam after earning a 75-68 triumph over Duquesne, Friday night inside CURE Insurance Arena.
The Tigers are now 2-0 at the Jersey Jam, having dispatched Big Ten opponent Rutgers 68-61 in last season's edition on Nov. 6, 2023.
The win moved Princeton to 4-2 all-time against the Dukes, and Franklin C. Cappon-Edward C. Green 40 Head Coach Mitch Henderson to 2-1 after earning his second-straight victory over Duquesne.
Junior Caden Pierce, one of four double-figure scorers, was honored as Most Outstanding Player after tying the game-high with 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting and pulling down five rebounds. Sophomore Dalen Davis also added 17 points, and junior Xaivian Lee came close to a triple double with 13 points, a game and career-high nine assists along with a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Blake Peters finished with 13 points and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line, with his eight free throws being a career-best.
Senior Philip Byriel made an impact off the bench, recording a new career-high against a DI opponent of eight points on 2-for-4 shooting from three and 2-for-2 shooting from the free throw line in 16 minutes. Freshman Malik Abdullahi was also a key contributor off the bench, scoring six points on 3-for-4 shooting with all baskets coming on dunks.
While the Dukes raced out to a 13-8 lead, a powerful dunk by Abdullahi ignited an 8-0 run that put the Tigers in front, 15-13, with 9:18 remaining in the half. The two teams would battle back-and-forth, with another Abdullahi dunk tying the score at 25-25 with 1:56 on the clock. A three-pointer late in the period saw Duquesne take a 28-25 advantage into halftime.
The Dukes came out of halftime hot, extending their lead to 11 at 42-31 with 13:16 left to play. Princeton began gaining momentum, using a 7-0 run that featured alley-oops by Abdullahi and Pierce along with a pull-up three-pointer by Lee to make to make it a 42-38 contest with 11:22 remaining.
With the deficit at 3, 60-57, a Peters layup led a 7-0 run that put the Tigers ahead, 64-40, with 2:08 left to play. Another 7-0 run, this time including a pair of Peters free throws along with three-pointers by Davis and Pierce, put the Tigers ahead 70-63 with 00:35 on the clock. From there, Princeton would hold on for the 75-68 victory.
