Zein Earns Ivy Rookie of the Year, Leading Four All-Ivy Honorees
February 15, 2024 | Women's Squash
Zeina Zein is the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and is one of four Princeton women's squash players to earn All-Ivy League honors this year, joining sophomore Liyen Teoh and fellow first-year Emma Trauber, while senior Katherine Glaser earned Academic All-Ivy recognition.
Zein is Princeton's ninth Rookie of the Year in the award's history and sixth in the last 10 awards. Current senior Caroline Spahr was the last Tiger to win the honor, in 2020.
Zein, Teoh and Trauber played at the top three positions for Princeton in eight of the team's last nine matches heading into this weekend's regular-season finale at Virginia.
Zein carries a 7-3 record into the Virginia match, playing all 10 of those matches at the first position. In Ivy matches, Zein went 3-2, winning each of her last three Ivy contests, against Dartmouth, Yale and Penn.
Playing in all 11 matches so far, Teoh has a 6-5 record, playing most often at second, where she has a 4-4 record. Trauber, a unanimous All-Ivy pick, has a 9-2 record, playing primarily at third, where she has a 7-2 mark. Against the league, Trauber was unbeaten, at 6-0.
Glaser, a history major, stands 11-0 this season, playing between the sixth (3-0), seventh (3-0) and eighth (5-0) positions.
The Ivy League honor is the first for Teoh, Trauber and Zein, and Glaser was the team's Academic All-Ivy selection in 2023. Following the Virginia match, Princeton will compete in the CSA team championships, beginning Feb. 29.
