
Men's Basketball Completes Weekend Sweep With 73-62 Victory Over Yale

PRINCETON, N.J. – Led by four double figure scorers, the Princeton University men's basketball team completed the weekend sweep with a 73-62 victory over Yale, Saturday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium in a contest broadcast live on ESPN2.
Sophomore Xaivian Lee led the way with a game-high 19 points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists. Senior Matt Allocco added 18 points and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line, with his seven made frees being a season-high, while also adding three rebounds and three assists while sophomore Caden Pierce added 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Senior Zach Martini rounded out the Tigers' double figure scorers, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds. Senior Blake Peters tallied eight points along with a team and career-high eight rebounds.
The Tigers took an early 8-4 lead, after a jumper by Lee then a Martini three-pointer with 16:29 on the clock. The Bulldogs responded with a 7-0 run, jumping ahead 15-12 with 12:31 left in the half, but the Tigers would battle back and take a 21-20 advantage at 7:35 after a Martini layup and another Lee jumper. With 3:40 remaining in the half, Lee drained a three-pointer that sparked a 7-0 run that put Princeton in front, 32-28, with 2:03 on the clock. Freshman Dalen Davis and Allocco connected on three-pointers inside the final 90 seconds and the Tigers took a 38-30 advantage into the half.
At 7 p.m. ET on Feb. 23 Princeton faces Harvard (13-9, 4-5) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at 7 p.m. ET inside Lavietes Pavillion.

Five Pierce points early in the second half extended Princeton's lead 45-32 with 15:50 remaining, but Yale would use an 8-0 run to narrow the deficit to two, 49-47, at 10:37. Allocco buried a jumper with 10:09 on the clock then Peters completed a three-point play with 8:37 left to play which put the Tigers up 54-47 and swung the momentum back Princeton's way. Another Lee layup followed by three Allocco free throws extended the Tigers' lead to 61-52 at 5:47, then with 0:42 Pierce threw down a powerful two-handed dunk that gave Princeton a 71-60 lead.
