February 17, 2024 | Women's Basketball
NEW HAVEN – The No. 24/No. 25 Princeton Women's Basketball Team easily disposed the Yale Bulldogs, 70-25, at the Lee Amphitheater.
Â
Even at 6-all, Princeton used a 13-2 sprint to end the first quarter to hold a 19-8 advantage. The Tigers shot 57.1 percent during that stretch, going 8-of-14 from the floor.
Â
Yale scored the first basket of the second quarter to make the Ivy battle a nine-point affair, 19-10, at the 8:47 mark.
Â
That was the last time the home team was within single digits the rest of the game.
Â
Princeton scored seven of the next eight points and eventually took a 32-15 lead into halftime.
Â
Head coach Carla Berube's team put the game away with an impressive 28-6 third quarter. The nationally ranked squad was 12-of-15 shooting (80.0 percent) while allowing just one basket on nine attempts.
Â
Princeton's defense gave up single digits in each quarter including just four in the final 10 minutes. The Orange and Black's 25 points allowed are the lowest of the Berube era.
Â
Kaitlyn Chen finished with 18 points on 7-of-9 from the floor, securing six assists, two blocks and two rebounds. She finished a +38 in 28 minutes. Madison St. Rose also scored in double figures with 10 points while Tabitha Amanze corralled a personal-best nine points and six rebounds in the victory.
Â
The Tigers' 45-point victory is their largest margin since winning by 47 vs. Hartford last January (84-37).
Â
Princeton is now 20-3 overall and 10-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers have won at least 20 contests in each of the past six seasons. Berube's unit takes its 15-game winning streak into New York City next Saturday (Feb. 24) to take on Columbia. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
