Tigers Win Fourth Straight, Defeat UC San Diego to End Spring Trip
March 13, 2024 | Softball
Lauren Sablone had two hits and drove in two runs and Sophia Marsalo drove in another as the Princeton softball team closed its spring trip with a 3-1 win at UC San Diego on Wednesday.
Cassidy Shaw, Molly Chambers and Brielle Wright teamed up to lock down the Tritons in the circle. Shaw threw the first 5 1/3 innings, allowing a run on six hits and a walk, striking out three. Chambers got an out in the sixth before giving way to Wright, who got out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam with Princeton's lead at just a run before retiring UCSD in order in the seventh to get her second save in as many games.
Allison Ha sent a one-out triple down the rightfield line in the second inning before a Sophia Marsalo sacrifice fly brought home Ha to get the Tigers on the board.
UCSD got the run back with a triple and a base hit in the bottom half of the inning, and the 1-1 tie continued until the fifth inning when a walk to Grace Jackson and a Lauren Pappert base hit put two runners on. Groundouts from Julia Dumais and Lauren Sablone got Jackson over and in, and Princeton was back in front, 2-1.
The Tigers tacked on another run in the seventh, with Jackson leading off with a base hit before coming home three batters later on a Sablone single to make it 3-1.
Princeton will be away from competition until March 23 when the Ivy League season opens at Columbia.
