Markesini, Tordin Get Set to Represent Canada, U.S. U-20s in Germany

A pair of Tigers will be on opposite sides for a game in April as rising sophomore Zoe Markesini and rising junior Pietra Tordin head to Germany to take part in training and competition on behalf of the U-20 national teams of Canada and the U.S. as preparations for the FIFAÂ U-20 Women's World Cup that begins in August in Colombia continue.
"I'm ecstatic that Zoe and Pietra have earned the opportunity to represent their respective countries in the latest international call-up," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "They have both worked diligently to be unique in their craft and I'm grateful that has been recognized. Without a doubt, the highlight of this trip will occur on Sunday when the U.S. faces Canada and the two Tigers line up on opposite sides of the ball."
Markesini, who competed in the 2022 U-17 Concacaf women's championship and the 2023 U-20 Concacaf women's event for Canada, will again suit up for Canada for the U-20 training trip to Germany, which will run April 2-10. The game against Tordin and the Americans will take place on April 7 in the town of Verl, and Canada will face Germany on April 9, also in Verl.
"I feel immensely grateful and privileged for the chance to represent my country at both the U17 and now U20 youth level," Markesini said. "Playing alongside such talented teammates is a true honor and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have participated in such remarkable experiences. I am extremely excited about this upcoming event as it presents yet another fantastic opportunity for our team to grow and compete against some of the best countries and players internationally."
Just since January, Tordin has taken part in a U.S. U-20 training camp in California and traveled with the U.S. U-20s to Colombia for training and competition. This will be Tordin's third U.S. call-up, with the Germany trip running April 1-7. Along with the April 7 game against Markesini and the Canadians, Tordin and Team USA will take on Germany on April 5, also in Verl.
"Training with the U-20s has been honestly amazing so far," Tordin said. "It's been really amazing so far, and for this camp coming up in Germany, I'm just excited to continue to get to to get to know the girls better, get more chemistry on the field and hopefully get some good minutes in during the games, and make an impact on the field when I can."
Markesini played in 18 games as a rookie for Princeton in 2023 and made 13 starts. A part of the Tiger back line, Markesini played in six shutouts over the season.
Tordin earned United Soccer Coaches All-American honors in 2023, playing in 18 games and scoring 12 goals while adding six assists. Tordin's 2023 season was just the 11th 30-point season in program history, and she already stands 14th on Princeton's career goals list, with 20.
