Women's Track & Field Wraps Up Competition at Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON, NJ - The Princeton women's track and field team had a strong showing to open the 2024 outdoor season at the 2024 Sam Howell Invitational hosted at Weaver Stadium this Saturday
"Home meets are always fun especially when it is a season opener," said head coach Michelle Eisenreich. "Across all events, our women had strong performances. We are excited to ramp things up even more next weekend at the University of Miami."
To start of the day, in the throwing events, Makenna Marshall, had three throws in the series that were better than her PR going into the day. Marshall secured third place in shot put with a throw of 13.99m (45-10.75). Marshall also excelled in discus, achieving a college-best throw of 43.23m (141-10), earning her second place. Despite challenging wind conditions, Shea Greene, another sophomore, emerged victorious in javelin with a throw of 47.78m (156-9), the farthest throw in the Ivy League this season. Niki Woods and Oluwatise Okeremi claimed fourth and seventh places, respectively. Annika Kelly triumphed in the women's hammer, setting a new PR, improving her second-place Princeton all-time record by one meter, and Ivy League leading throw of 61.68m (202-4), closely followed by Maddie Wolford in fourth place with a PR of 50.51m (165-8).
In the jumping competitions, Georgina Scoot established a new school record in long jump, covering a distance of 6.28m (20-7.25). Alexandra Kelly also seized victory in triple jump with a final bound of 13.04m (42-9.5), while Madeleine Wood claimed the high jump title, reaching a height of 1.68m (42-9.5). Julia Jongejeugd, the multi-venter, demonstrated her versatility by finishing eighth in high jump, successfully clearing 1.58m (5-2.25).
In the sprinting events, Julia Jongejeugd, Lily Parris, and Adelaide Asante advanced to the finals of the women's 100m hurdles. Jongejeugd took home the win with a time of 14.11, the new Princeton 7th all-time in the event. Asante and Parris secured fourth and fifth place in the 100m hurdle finals, respectively. Senior India Ingemi represented the team in the 400 meters, finishing sixth with a time of 56.52 seconds. Princeton dominated the 100 meters, a 1-2 finish with Harlowe-Brumett Dunn claiming victory with a time of 12.10, closely followed by Franziska Burchett in second place with a time of 12.18. In the women's 200 meters, another 1-2 finish was accomplished through senior Brianna Mponzi, who secured first place with a time of 24.66, and Harlowe Brumett-Dunn closely trailing with a time of 24.89.
The women's 800-meter race showcased outstanding performances by Olivia Martin, Maddie Cramer, and Charlotte O'Toole, with Martin claiming the top spot. In the elite section, Mena Scatchard and Maggie Liebich impressed by securing second and third place, respectively. Mena's time of 2:06:37 in the 800m ranks 7th all-time in the Princeton outdoor record book. India Ingemi debuted in the 400m hurdles, achieving a time of 1:04.00 and securing fourth place overall. Following closely were freshman Rachael Wilson and Lauren Harris, with times of 57.74 and 57.90, respectively. Other notable performances included Lexi Allen's second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:46.56 as well as Georgina Scoot's time of 25.14 in the 200m.
In the 1500-meter race, Olivia Martin led the team with a second-place finish at 4:30.10, closely followed by Maddie Cramer and Fiona Max. Lucca Fulkerson shined in the 5000-meter race, securing second place with a time of 17:02.54.
The female Tigers demonstrated remarkable progress and underscored the dedication they've put into their training ahead of their outdoor season opener at home.
