
Greene and Kelly Capture First-Place Finishes at Hurricane Alumni Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Princeton women's track and field team concluded yet another successful outdoor meet for the 2024 season. The Tigers traveled all the way to Coral Gables to compete at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Despite sharing the stage with numerous professional athletes, the Tigers showcased remarkable performances and achieved personal records across all events.
To kick off day 1, Annika Kelly secured a commendable 3rd place finish in hammer throw, registering a best throw of 59.32 meters (194'7). Siniru Iheoma showed a strong season opener in the discus, reaching 52.32 meters (171'8), while Makenna Marshall set a new personal record with a throw of 48.30 meters (158'5), placing the sophomore fifth all-time at Princeton. Georgina Scoot extended her school record in long jump to 6.29 meters (20'7.75), placing second in the competition against multiple All-American's from the indoor season with teammate Alex Kelly placing 11th with her jump of 5.74 meters (18'10"). SJ Cohen excelled in the women's pole vault, clearing a height of 3.80 meters (12'5.5") for ninth place overall.
In the heptathlon, Julia Jongejeugd delivered an outstanding performance, where she ran the 100m hurdles in 14.46 seconds and achieved a season's best in high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5'3.25"). She set a personal record in the 200m with a swift time of 25.69 seconds and achieved another personal record in shot put, throwing 12.84 meters (42'1.5"). On day 2, Jongejeugd leaped to 5.17 meters (16'11.5") in the long jump and threw 34.47 meters (113'1") in the javelin. Finishing off her heptathlon, she ran 2:30.30 in the 800 meters to score 5059 points, breaking 5000 for the first time, and moving to fourth all-time in school history.
Shea Greene opened day 2 of competition with a college best of 50.88 meters (166'11") on her final throw in the women's javelin to take first place overall. Deisiane Teixeira of Miami claimed the lead with her last throw of 49.42 meters (162'2"), but Greene demonstrated her best effort when she needed it most to reclaim the lead and win the competition. The women's 4x100 meter relay displayed absolute dominance on the track, taking second overall with a time of 45.51 seconds, which moves the relay team up to second all-time for Princeton. The 400 meters highlighted stellar performances by Lauren Harris, running 56.45 seconds for a season's best, and Maisha Atkinson, who ran 57.37. Brianna Mponzi displayed grit in the 100 meters after running a leg in the 4x100 earlier in the day and went on to run a time of 11.79 seconds for tenth place overall (fourth place of the collegians in the field). Harlowe Brumett-Dunn and Franziska Burchett also excelled in the 100 meters, with times of 12.04 and 12.25, respectively. Brianna Mponzi continued her strong showing with a time of 24.57 seconds in the 200 meters, securing a notable ninth place collegiate finish, closely followed by Harlowe-Brumett Dunn in 24.88.
In the 100mH, the sole tiger Lily Parris ran a time of 14.47 to take fifteenth overall in the competition. Adelaide Asante secured second place overall with a time of 1:01.18 seconds in the 400mH, the fastest she's ever opened her season in the 400mH. In the field events, Siniru Iheoma threw another strong season opener of 14.49 meters (47'6.5") in the shot put, battling hard against the pros, while Makenna Marshall threw 13.92 meters (45'8"), just shy of her personal best, earning third place in the collegiate section. Alexandra Kelly and Georgina Scoot secured a historic 1-2 finish in the triple jump, with Alexandra Kelly winning the competition with a jump of 13.02 meters (42'8.75") and Georgina Scoot following with 12.84 meters (42'1.5") for second place. To conclude the meet and put an end to a successful weekend of competition, the women's 4x400m relay of Asante, Ingemi, Mponzi, and Atkinson finished strong with a time of 3:46.05 for a fifth-place finish.
