Tigers Score Ten in Win at Long Beach State as Spring Trip Continues
March 09, 2024 | Softball
Princeton fell 7-3 to Grand Canyon earlier in the day and will return to Fullerton, Calif., for the team's final game of the weekend against North Dakota at 1 p.m. ET. Live scoring will be available here.
Against Grand Canyon, Princeton saw the Antelopes score five runs over the first three innings to lead 5-1 with Princeton getting its first run on a Dumais two-out RBI single in the third that picked up a leadoff base hit by Graciela Dominguez.Â
GCU added two in the fifth to pull ahead 7-1 before Princeton got the two runs back in the top of the sixth. A walk to Lauren Pappert and singles from Dumais and Lauren Sablone loaded the bases for Sonia Zhang, who reached on an unsuccessful fielder's choice to bring home one of the runs before a throwing error helped another score.
Cassidy Shaw threw 4 1/3 innings before Allie Goodwin threw a third of an inning and Molly Chambers closed out the last inning and a third.
Against Long Beach State, Princeton got started right away, with Dumais hitting a leadoff home run and Ford picking up a walk to Zhang for a two-run homer to make it 3-0 in the top of the first. Long Beach State got all three back in the bottom half of the inning and did the Tigers one better to lead 4-3 after one, but Princeton tied it in the top of the second when Dumais had a two-out single to cash in a leadoff walk to Grace Jackson to make it 4-4.
The 49ers retook the lead with a three-run third to make it 7-4, but Princeton had a big fourth inning to pull in front for good. Hits by Jackson and Allison Ha and Abby Hornberger getting hit by a pitch loaded the bases with one out for Dumais, who brought two home with a double. After an error that put Sablone on to reload the bases, a Zhang hit tied it at 7-7. Ford then folllowed with a two-run single to make it 9-7, and in the seventh inning, hits by Jackson and Bish put runners on for a Cate Bade ground ball to pick up the Tigers' 10th run of the game.
Meghan Harrington threw the first 2 1/3 against Long Beach State before giving way to Wright, who had the win in relief.
