Tigers Score 19 Runs, Sweep Pair from Dartmouth
April 13, 2024 | Softball
Following Saturday's results, Princeton (7-4 Ivy) is tied for second in the league with Columbia (7-4) and behind only Yale (11-3), next weekend's opponent, in a crowded league race. Harvard (8-6) stands fourth with Dartmouth (5-6), Brown (3-6), Cornell (2-7) and Penn (2-9) rounding out the standings heading into Sunday.
Princeton's 8-4 first-game win required a comeback after Dartmouth scored three times in the fourth and once in the fifth. Princeton had taken a 2-0 lead with a Caitlin Bish second-inning RBI single in the second and Sablone's first homer, a solo shot, in the third before Drtmouth pulled ahead 4-2 after four and a half innings.
Princeton retook the lead in the fifth when a Zhang hit-by-pitch and a Sablone base hit put two on for Dumais to single home Zhang before Allison Ha tied it with a base hit. Sophia Marsalo had a hit to put Princeton ahead, and Cate Bade grounded out to make it a 6-4 Tiger lead.
Princeton tacked on two in the sixth to make it 8-4 on Sablone's second homer after a Bish leadoff double, and Brielle Wright, who entered with Princeton trailing 3-2 in the fifth, picked up the win with just a hit allowed across three innings, striking out four. Cassidy Shaw had the start, going four innings with four runs allowed on five hits with three strikeouts, getting the no-decision.

After a scoreless first inning, Princeton scored 11 runs across three at-bats on the way to an 11-1, five-inning run-rule win to complete the Saturday sweep.
Two hits and a hit batter loaded the bases in the second before a fielder's choice allowed leadoff hitter Marsalo to score before a Lauren Pappert sacrifice fly made it 2-0.
The third inning saw Sablone get a one-out hit right before Julia Dumais homered to put Princeton up 4-0, and then after a walk to Allison Ha and hits by Marsalo and Grace Jackson, Cate Bade cleared the bases with a triple to make it 7-0. Caitlin Bish's sacrifice fly to pick up Bade made it 8-0.
The bottom of the fourth saw a Zhang solo homer before three hits loaded the bases for a Marsalo RBI single and an Allie Goodwin sacrifice fly for the 11-0 lead. A fifth-inning homer spoiled the shutout, but it couldn't spoil an outstanding outing for Meghan Harrington, who went all five innings and allowed the lone run on two hits without a walk, striking out four.
Princeton and Dartmouth will wrap the series with a 12:30 p.m. single game on Sunday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (U.S.) and Stretch (international) with live scoring available here.
